Niger forgeries: SISMI, OSP, Ledeen, Feith, Iran-Contra - It's ALL here!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 04:33 PM by scarletwoman
Throw in Chalabi, JINSA, AIPAC, Larry Franklin and those 13 CIA agents ordered arrested by that Italian judge. This Kos diary has an absolutely AMAZING rundown of the connections:

http://dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/7/22/7563/12283

Niger Yellowcake and The Man Who Forged Too Much

They say all roads lead to Rome. Well, this one certainly does. It's a road that starts in Paris, at the door of Iranian arms dealer and Mossad double agent Manucher Ghorbanifar, a man known to the CIA as an "intelligence fabricator". It's a road that runs through Niger uranium mines, past a Genoan fascist organization operating as a parallel Italian intelligence network with ties to Rocco Martino, and down the streets of Milan, where a CIA operative, now considered a fugitive at large by Italian authorities, once operated.

Ultimately, however, it is a road that does not end in Rome. It runs past that ancient icon of Imperial corruption and leads us to Washington D.C., past a Federal Investigation into Israeli espionage and right up to the steps of the White House and Dick Cheney's Office of Special Plans.

All signs along this road point to the answer to the question: Who forged the Niger Uranium Documents?

And once you've digested all that, go read this:

http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2005/07/niger_mischief.html

Niger Mischief

<snip>

Among the various items brought to mind by present history is the question of the Niger Document. This was the paper which turned up in the hands of Italian intelligence which purports to establish Saddam's drive to buy semi-refined Uranium ore in Niger. This document seems to be well established as a forgery planted on the Italians. Was the US government involved? I know of nothing at this point that would demonstrate that.

The newsmedia have worked on this story for years now and several have well documented the result. A major TV news magazine hired me last year to help them look for those who knew the truth in this matter. They succeeded. A national wire service did the same thing without my help and has the result. The same is true of two other national news publications.

It is very clear now that this document was forged by a couple of the shadowy ex-government characters who dwell in the environs of Washington and was planted in Italy on the basis of the personal contacts of one of them with the intention of influencing the debate over Iraq in this country.

There's ALOT to coverup in this Plame affair...

I'd like to make one friendly suggestion regarding your blog:

Lose the very first reference -- citing LaRouche as a source really damages credibility, even though the rest of your sourcing is top notch.

Best wishes,

He wrote a book called "Universal Fascism" which is, for some reason, difficult to get ones hands on today. He has ties to Italian fascists. And this guy is Karl Rove's foreign policy advisor.

Read this crap that he wrote in the National Review about us Bush Haters.

The Great Intelligence Committee Report
July 12, 2004
by Michael Ledeen

Wow, more than 520 pages. As Dan Darling and I worked through it (and don't miss his more detailed analysis at www.windsofchange.net), we were constantly entertained by big blocks of "redacted" pages. Why don't they just put in ellipses instead of all those blacked-out paragraphs? Maybe the Government Printing Office gets paid by the page, and Congress wants the GPO to have more money?

The other great mystery is how the authors expect us to read the report. It's terribly written, and talks breathlessly about "trade craft" when "logic" or "common sense" would do better. It takes multiple sentences to say things that should be reduced to one or two. Are there no editors around?

Whatever the explanation, you should know that the text does not always conform to the talk-about-the-text. The text, for example, is at pains to say that the report does not deal with the "accuracy" of the intelligence. That will come later (barely five minutes later in the case of Senator Jay Rockefeller, who looked as if he'd just leapt out of a sauna and hadn't had time to towel off — I hadn't seen an American politician sweat like that since the glory days of Milhous). This report is said to focus on the intelligence "process" — that is, how information was gathered, analyzed, and provided to policymakers.

<snip>

The best part of the report is the thorough discrediting of former Ambassador Wilson, who duped just about every self-proclaimed "investigative journalist" in America. Wilson is the husband of a CIA officer who was sent by the CIA to Niger to check on an allegation — based at least in part on some documents given to the American embassy in Rome — that Saddam's minions had approached the Nigeriens with a request for uranium. Wilson had told everyone that the Nigeriens had denied it, and he personally told the Washington Post and others that the documents in question were probably forgeries because names and dates were wrong.

6. What disturbs me the most is even though there are LOTS of "dots"
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 06:27 PM by scarletwoman
that can be connected, these are many of the same "dots" that were effectively covered-up and sent down the memory hole after the Iran-Contra investigations. (Not to mention BCCI -- there's a whole 'NOTHER set of "dots" involving some of the same players!)

I keep wondering, do these power-mad assholes really get to keep running their scams and fucking with the whole world with impunity for all time? Or will there someday be a reckoning?

I mean, these guys have been building up their networks of malfeasance and corruption for decades -- generations even! The arms dealers and oilmen and bankers and intelligence agencies have been manipulating nations and playing their power games since at least the end of WWII. The bush cabal is just the most directly visible manifestation of these players -- they've worked long and hard to get complete control of the U.S. government.

Will they EVER be brought down?

If nothing else, I think that Gaia herself will eventually see to a reckoning -- but that will mean it will be all over for ALL of us.

sw

Almost forgot -- thank you very much for the recommendation!

10. A BIGGER, BADDER SEQUEL TO IRAN-CONTRA

Published on Sunday, July 10, 2005 by the Los Angeles Times

Confessed Iran-Contra Figure Lands Sensitive Pentagon Post
Robert Earl, who helped in the failed coverup of the '80s scandal, is now chief of staff to Gordon England, acting deputy secretary of Defense.

by John Hendren

WASHINGTON — In 1987, Robert L. Earl told a grand jury that he had destroyed and stolen national security documents while working for Lt. Col. Oliver L. North during the Iran-Contra scandal.

Now, he sits in one of the most coveted offices in the Pentagon as chief of staff to Gordon R. England, acting deputy secretary of Defense. Earl has clearance to review the kinds of classified documents he once destroyed.

As England goes through his Senate confirmation process, his hiring of Earl has drawn criticism from government ethics watchdogs. But congressional sources said it was unlikely to affect support for England, who was popular on Capitol Hill but whose nomination was tied up over an arcane financial rule.

President Bush nominated England to replace Paul D. Wolfowitz, who left the deputy secretary's post this spring to head the World Bank.

A BIGGER, BADDER SEQUEL TO IRAN-CONTRA

Jim Lobe, AlterNet 2003

Just like Ollie North and his cohorts, a small network of officials are pursuing a covert foreign policy agenda -- except their aims are vastly more ambitious.

http://www.alternet.org/story/16597 /

The specter of the Iran-Contra affair is haunting Washington. Some of the people and countries are the same, and so are the methods ? particularly the pursuit by a network of well-placed individuals of a covert, parallel foreign policy that is at odds with official policy.
Boiled down to its essentials, the Iran-Contra affair was about a small group of officials based in the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) that ran an "off-the-books" operation to secretly sell arms to Iran in exchange for hostages. The picture being painted by various insider sources in the media suggests a similar but far more ambitious scheme at work.

Taken collectively, what these officials describe and what is already on the public record suggests the existence of a disciplined network of zealous, like-minded individuals. Centered in Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Douglas Feith's office and around Richard Perle in the Defense Policy Board in the Pentagon, this exclusive group of officials operates under the aegis of Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney.

This network includes high-level political appointees, such as Undersecretary of State John Bolton, who are scattered around several other key bureaucracies, notably in the State Department, the NSC staff, and most importantly, in Cheney's office.

Sadly, "conspiracy theorists" get treated like DUng by the Quislings, Know-Nothings, "Faith-Based" (sur)realists, and posturing Arrogants when the symptoms are discussed.

It's not new.
Remember the "wrong-footing" (as the DSM describes the tactic) of Saddam by April Glaspie??
Remember the "Kuwaiti babies being ripped from the incubators"???

These people are insatiable in their lust for power and completely without scruples or morals ... other than Omerta.

8. Well, you can never overestimate the ability of folks to refuse to see
what they don't want to see.

"These people" should have been put out of business by Iran-Contra, but the press and the public just allowed the whole thing to fade away. The average American just simply didn't want to deal with such unpleasantness, and the elite were more than happy to make sure that the public were lulled back to sleep.

As I posted to G_j: will there ever be an end?

19. Extremely important! - and here are background articles on the forgeries
in the opening post and more (two very important ones by Seymour Hersh) in the replies in this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1939214
Thread title: Yglesias: WHO FORGED THE NIGER DOCUMENTS? At the heart of the WMD lies

And don't overlook other side of this: how/by whom was the fact that the Niger documents were OBVIOUS forgeries suppressed? MONTHS went by while the administration stonewalled their release to experts for examination, and when they were finally seen, their fraudulence was determined in less than a day.

They KNEW the Niger uranium documents were FAKES.

It's not just who forged them, it's also who kept their fraudlence secret. One of the Hersh articles in the thread I referred to seems to imply that Bolton was involved in the suppression side at least.

heart of the maze, the greed and insanity that underlies everything else. No wonder they're so frantic to deny, distract, stonewall, and lie lie lie. Once the lid starts lifting, the horrors that spill out are going to bring them all down. Yes, the cover-up may help open the doors, but its the crimes that will blast open the black heart of this cabal.

I wonder when the truth behind the 9/11 attacks will start going mainstream? They'll hold on to that as long as they can, it's what would turn everyone against them except the fringe insane para-extremist evangelicals who will support anything that fulfills prophecies of the end of the world. They're sure they'll all be raptured, so who cares about anyone or anything else?

the writings and reports necessary to explain this crew of crooks and gangsters would be the size of an encyclopedia. Sometimes there is so much information in my head about the things they're doing, my brain feels like it is frying! It's no wonder that many people do not have the energy to follow all the dots. It is just incredible that one group of people are responsible for so much mayhem and evil.

It is impossible to explain to someone what is going on, because there is too much for the mind to grasp. And I ain't kiddin'.
