Powell and Tenet get my vote for the Treasongate Deep Throat Award
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 05:23 PM by Ugnmoose
Neither one came from the Neocon camp and therefore had questionable allegiance to them, both had intimate knowledge about the Plame outing and alot more, and both have motive of revenge. Powell was used for his popularity and credibility to make the "bullshit" case before the U.N. Security Council, and Tenet was made to fall on his sword in taking the blame for the false claims about WMD and the Yellowcake fiasco. I think the outing of a covert CIA agent was the last straw for these two. That is why when you hear the term "former senior Administration official" bandied about in the recent leaks to the media, you probably can bet it was one or both of these two. If I am correct, Fitzgerald has a bundle of juicy inside information, enough to take down the entire cabal.

1. To hell with them both
They should have spoken up two years ago, when they had the chance.

They are as responsible as anyone else.

6. I know how you feel but we don't know enough yet
You just don't cross these people, because they will get their revenge. The only way they could do it was under legal subpoena. Unlike the others they were not going to perjure themselves.

10. Well he was.
Signer of the insane PNAC letter, and fairly aggressive in military issues. Also, significantly, Colin Powell's long-time best friend. And a couple things changed him. Certainly, seeing the back-stabbing abusive shit that was heaped on his friend was one. I think Powell's lack of spine may have resulted in his feeling the need to go further than Powell dared.

You know that Bush would never meet alone with Powell. He always had to have Rice there. Let's think: in the president's mind, what did those two have in common? What trait not shared by others in the administration? Things like that stand out not only to Powell as a black American, but to a friend who didn't view Powell as black first.

Seeing some other things that happened leading up to the Iraq invasion seems to have changed him. I wouldn't think he'll ever become progressive or a pacifist. But I think he realizes that a cult has taken over the reigns of power. And I think he knows American soldiers are killing and dying for a lie.

11. Do you know if Armitage testified to the Grand Jury?
Because it is pretty obvious now that anyone believed to be involved or with knowledge has been called in.

14. So he let his own 'Powell Doctrine' get shit-canned by Bush
"Essentially, the Doctrine expresses that military action should be used only as a last resort and only if there is a clear risk to national security by the intended target; the force, when used, should be overwhelming and disproportionate to the force used by the enemy; there must be strong support for the campaign by the general public; and there must be a clear exit strategy from the conflict in which the military is engaged."

Loyalty to Bush allowed Powell to become a first-class hypocrite.

19. I agree.
Powell, much like McCain, had the potential to do important works in the political arena. Both betrayed the public trust. Both, in my opinion, betrayed the Constitution.

15. Armitage. Yes, he's got the stones Powell gave up to shimmy up the pole
I can see Armitage flipping over on the "P'NUTS". Powell would never and frankly I don't think Tenet could either. He could never play the game as well as Rove.

20. I may be wrong ....
but of the three, Armitage is my guess for the most likely to tell the truth. And the "stones" issue is very real.

but forget about Powell. He's a spineless wimp, I doubt if he would have the courage.

8. Remember how pissed Powell got when Cheney's gal interrupted him
in the interview with Tim Russert. You could see fire in his eyes. Don't be so sure that under a subpoena he would not spill his guts.

That he may have. But will he take down a fellow Republican? Maybe. A Republican president? Never.

13. I really think that Fitz is apolitical
especially when it comes to serious crime. First and foremost he is a blood and guts prosecutor. Hey he took down Governor Ryan. He will go where the case leads him and let the chips fall where they may. If Chimpy is involved and he has the evidence - he will tell it.
I think we are all justifiable jaded by the many coverups we have seen with administration and the lack of any legal action to bring them to light. I truly think this one is going to be different. I think the Neocons have met their match.

21. Maybe. I hope you're right. But imagine the pressure Fitz is under
If he's that gung ho, he's got to be ambitious--maybe sees this as a stepping stone to Governor or Senator. Hell, if he brings down a presidential advisor he's got the leadership skills to be a top pol. But if he's ambitious like that or in any other way, that also means he has attachments, a price, and an interest that can be bought off.

I'm telling you, he's got to be under a lot of heavy duty pressure from everyone he's ever owed a favor to to keep the damage localized. He may get Rove, but I guarantee you no one's green lighting him to go after Bush and several people will have already told him just how far the edge of his world extends.

16. Blackmail and intimidation go a long way
I think both Powell and Tenet were under great duress to play the loyal soldiers. Again, while Powell may look like a hypocrite, we don't know all the facts. BTW, let's take a look at Tony Blair. He certainly did not appear to have any affinity with the Neocons yet he jumped in Bushes lap just like the proverbial poodle. Why? I say blackmail. I think there is something the Neocons know about him that could destroy him and they played it for eveything it was worth.

17. Did you hear what Ray McGovern had to say about Powell at DSM
Hearings___he called him a yes massa kind of person, a throw back from years ago. At the time he was discussing Powell's UN show he staged on all those WMD's. If he lied to the UN about those WMD and urgency of going to war, I fear he's capable of lying about anything!!!!!!!!

22. Powell wanted another four years working for BushCo
He was fired by Bush. 'Nuff said. He had his chance to make a public stand, even a public resignation would have been something.

He has no integrity, and I very much doubt that he has any role in the current investigation.
