Any interest in a Bollywood group?
I just posted this in the Lounge, but I know some DUers aren't Lounge rats.

If there's no interest, I will be okay with that, LOL.

It's just that there's a freeper element on one of the boards I visit, and I've been doing great at ignoring it and keeping it SRK real, LOL-- I'd like it better if the board were at DU.

So umm....shucks. Yes, no, maybe, post it here I guess. We could talk about the Salman scandal, whether The Rising is ever going to be released this century....

and of course, Shah Rukh.

Was hoping you'd be around.

Now I hope we can get a few other folks...

5. So, seen Bride and Prejudice yet?
(I'll help keep this thread kicked for a few minutes more, anyway.)

I saw it a couple of weeks ago. Lots of fun.

Except that Aishwarya Rai stars in it. She's so hard to look at.

6. Quite a homely girl, yes.

It's a shame.

Have not seen Bride and Prejudice yet, though...I've never been a fan of the story. I like other Austen, but that I just have always been really blah on.

So that's stopping me. But it is on my list. Did you see it?

I think I'm going to kick the thread for a few days just so everyone has a chance to see it (or, just to keep irritating everyone so they join up just to get me to stop talking about it!).

10. I'm not really familiar with the story.
I just soaked up all the colour and clothing and music and dancing.

It's like a short Bollywood movie with a western edge.

I'd also recommend Bollywood Hollywood, from Canada.

12. Canada makes Bollywood films too, huh??
Technically, I guess it's Bollywood...Hollywood.

Thanks for the recommendation--so Bride and Prejudice was pretty good...as far as okay movies go?

13. Pure froth.
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 08:04 PM by tuvor
Light 'n' tasty! Oh, and the bad guy who tries to win Aishwarya's heart, according to my wife, is quite a hottie.

The reviews have been pretty good, too. Also, don't forget to check imdb.com.

ON EDIT: Oh, yeah. No kissing. However there WAS one rainstorm.

14. There's always a rainstorm.
You'd think someone would get an umbrella, use it....
I've actually seen two films where they've had umbrellas--but then toss them aside.

The guy from B&P is good looking-- I bet they tried to get a bigger star. I'm kind of frustrated with the lack of Bollywood films available to Americans. Seems to me they'd appeal to romance book readers (isn't that a huge market?), musical lovers....just for starters. I'm guessing that they're in a foreign language is the big problem.

B&P was in...English?

16. I was told that rainstorms/monsoons are a metaphor for sex.
No wonder they tossed the umbrellas!

Some Hindi (Punjabi? I'm totally ignorant) at the beginning. But English throughout the rest of the movie.

17. Some real Bollywood productions are made in Canada.
Vancouver almost held the Bollwood version of the Oscars last year.

3. I gotta tell you, I spent three weeks in Mumbai in 2002 and was first
introduced to Bollywood and it's films. What a hoot!!! The first movie I ever watched was a James-Bondish-type secret agent flick. To my utter amazement, in the thick of things everyone breaks out in this almost Broadway song and dance number. "I'm the villain and I'm going to kill you...."

4. That's what makes them so cool!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 07:49 PM by tjdee
If you're in love with someone, you go and sing about it near the pyramids in Egypt! Who cares if you were just in a small town in India!

If you're going to kill someone, you'd best believe you have sung to them about it and all the reasons why, LOL. Though, some are less random than others.

9. My time in Mumbai was purely business. Someday, hopefully, I'll get
the opportunity to really exerience India. I found the people very kind and fascinating. Truly an amazing country.

Okay, I gotta ask. Are there versions of Indian pornography, equivalent to American porn, and do they break out into song and dance?

11. Ha! I don't know!
That's a really good question, LOL. There isn't even that much kissing in Indian movies.

The films have interested me in the country and the language... Aww, now I'm going to wonder about the Indian porn industry. Great, LOL!
