I know you're out there so step up and be the conscience of America
I know there's another soldier, a civilian... and even someone in government who has copies of the Abu Ghraib torture evidence.

I want you to remember that you first duty is to the Constitution. Your most important duty is to the people. You are under no obligation to support war criminals or war crimes.

I know you don't like what's happening to our country. I know you understand that Bush is harming not only America, but America's military as well, by supporting and advocating torture. I know you understand that by having a policy of torture, the Bush administration is making it more dangerous for Americans all over the world.

Nows the time to truly serve your country. Nows the time to truly do the honorable thing. Nows the time to show you do have integrity.

Expose the torture. Send the evidence to those who will do something about it. Send it far and wide. Once it's out there, there can be no more denying it. Once it's out there, America's guilt and shame can be exposed - for unless it is fully exposed, America will forever be known as the nation that tortures and covers up torture. Don't be a part of that tragic legacy.

Stand up. Do what's right. It won't be easy but it is what you have to do.

Take a stand for America.

Send your copies.

America deserves better than cowards too afraid to take a stand.

If I had the evidence I wouldn't hesitate to do the right thing.

My country means too much to me to allow such wrongs to go unpunished.

Follow Spec. Darby's example and do the right thing.

(I had to try......even if it is hopeless)

1. I am amazed at how
seemingly efficiently all the evidence has been kept under wraps...

5. I always found that part amazing myself
I've thought about it and thought about it. I've asked those who would know how things work...and someone is out there. I know that.

2. Nice post ....
And it's not hopeless. At some point, exactly as you propose, someone that the machne least expects will answer that call to conscience.

we'd find out the true extent of this administration's evil.

it was all done in our name as Americans.

9. Calling all patriots, sirens and klaxons
This support of torture needs to be greeted with a cacophonous outcry of outrage.

These "good ol' boys" need to hear from their line of command TODAY. Make it happen. "If it's brown, SHOOT it" has been the "unspoken" operative phrase that has informed the behaviour of far too many in the military. It is ENCOURAGED by the *misadministration. Those who signed up to serve their country honorably and find such sentiments in direct contradiction of their core values are DAILY being subjected to psychic assault.

10. I'm in the middle of writing a letter now about that
Maybe I'm just not cut out for this world...

but stuff like that is, to my thinking, indicative of someone who would torture and then brag about it

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them?

11. We are crying out for a REAL AMERICAN HERO here..
We are looking for the man (or woman) who is truly in the position to be able to SAVE AMERICA. The hope and dreams of our forefathers and the promise that is "the great experiment" are at your fingertips.

C'mon.. DO IT..

someone as a hero. Usta, you had to do something extraordinary....now a hero is someone who just does what's right.

I'm not being rude, if it comes off that way...I'm just measuring how far we've fallen as a nation.

15. I agree

I've just been a horribly sad mood since the "11th hour" refusal to hand over the evidence of Abu Ghraib. I'm waiting for it to turn to anger...go through the whole process. I think I'm grieving.

29. Solly-
i'm with you in spirit, though that spirit is one of sadness-
i admire your shouting in the wilderness-

no need for hero's though- just for someone who has a heart that is as burdened for human 'KIND' that they cannot be still-

i'd gladly go steal those photos if i knew where they were- but, even if people saw them, i can't help but think they'd claim "doctored photos" propaganda, or be-little the heinousness of them-

Thank you though, for not giving up- for crying out-

may your call be heard and answered-

may this world wake up

and may we TRULY humble ourselves.... i know that sounds 'religious'- and i don't mean it to- but we need to know 'we' are not 'good guys'- we are people who do, (even in absentia, or ignorance) deeds as evil as the worst of human'kind'- because we are quite simply, equally human.

Even though we consume the majority of the worlds 'goods'- it hasn't made us 'good'-

Thank you for your heart, and for your caring, and for not falling into total despair.-

may we rejoice someday, in seeing a 'sea change'

wishing you comfort-

18. words from Martin Luther King Jr.
We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late. Procrastination is still the thief of time. Life often leaves us standing bare, naked, and dejected with a lost opportunity. The tide in the affairs of men does not remain at flood -- it ebbs. We may cry out desperately for time to pause in her passage, but time is adamant to every plea and rushes on. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words, "Too late." There is an invisible book of life that faithfully records our vigilance or our neglect. Omar Khayyam is right: "The moving finger writes, and having writ moves on."

After I first posted the OP this AM I left to get about my day. I felt so pathetic and helpless, making a plea for someone to come forward and do the right thing.

All of you have made me feel better. I appreciate that greatly.

32. I was thinking of them when I wrote the OP
Not just them...but also them.

I believe I'd curse the senator out that spouted that tiresome line of it being better for America to hide the truth than it would to expose the full extent of the lies....that very attitude has brought incredible amounts of harm to our nation. It's the lies and the cover-ups that eat away at the very heart of America.

36. My worry
Is that the Bushistas have managed to get rid of those folks at the highest levels who would actually have access to these photos as well as enough of a conscience to release this info. When Bush and his team arrived in DC in January 2001, some agencies saw mass purges at management and counsel levels, with replacements provided by Bush's corporate overlords. I have an intense feeling that only the most loyal (and remember that Bush was thinking of invading Iraq even before 9-11) were allowed in.
