John Kerry at Le Tour.
John Kerry was at the Tour de France today, and road in the Discovery Team Car that trailed Lance Armstrong during the final individual time trial. Lance won the stage, and cemented is 7th Tour victory.

I wonder if Lance will take Shrubs calls after he finishes in Paris tomorrow. I always thought that Armstrong was just another sheeple from Texas. Perhaps I was wrong? Perhaps Sheryl Crow has helped him to become more informed?

2. I could have sworn I heard him criticize the war in Iraq.
Which would make sense considering the amount of time he's spent in Europe and realizing how much it's hurt our reputation.

Damn -- I forgot how good a guy John Kerry was! I still think he ran a subpar campaign, but he's really (as James Carville said) "just a better man than George Bush."

3. Armstrong is an internationalist. He is well-informed.
He grew up in poverty with a single parent so he knows what its like to struggle. Don't decide someone is a kookaid drinker just because they are from Texas.

5. Sorry.
I didn't mean to imply that. I just seemed to recall him makeing some sort of comment very early on in his career that made me believe that polically he leaned to the right.

9. he's also taken the trouble to learn some French ...
Not expecting one's French hosts to speak English goes a long way towards making friends. By being polite and sportsmanlike I imagine that he's done a lot more than George W. has, for promoting French/US relations.

4. DU had this discussion last year: LANCE IS NOT A * SUPPORTER!
Lance is not a Repub, he is not a Chimp Supporter, et al...

He supported Kerry, he has spoken out against the War, he is the son of a single mom who struggled to raise him and his blood runs blue inside. His partner, Cheryl Crow is very much a democrat too and very outspoken against *.

What Lance has is class. If the President of the United States calls him, he is respectful. Just because he takes the call, doesn't mean they are pals or that he supports him.

Kerry is there as Lance's guest....that should speak volumes....

Wow!
So far so good for Lance. He won a stage and now on to Paris.
The triumph stage is great. I've eaten many a pizza on th second floor of a restuarant in the Champs watching. It is neat!
