WASHINGTON (AP) - Catholic Sen. Rick Santorum assured abuse victims Thursday that he would look into why the Justice Department has yet to respond to their request for an investigation of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy.

The meeting between Santorum, R-Pa., and three members of the Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests was scheduled after some of its members expressed outrage over a column he wrote in 2002.

"When the culture is sick, every element in it becomes infected," Santorum wrote in the column. "While it is no excuse for this scandal, it is no surprise that Boston, a seat of academic, political and cultural liberalism in America, lies at the center of the storm."

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., criticized the column on the Senate floor last week.

I had the misfortune of seeing him speak once, at (of all places) a meeting of conservationists who were attempting to do something about the horrid runoff from an old coal mine into a state park. 4. I have a vested interest in seeing Casey defeat this POS.

You see, some months ago my father was killed in an entirely preventable construction "accident" in which he was backed over by a dumptruck. Since that time, I have done extensive research on similar accidents and have discovered that they are a frighteningly common occurance. My investigations further revealed that heavy mining companies have begun adopting the practice of using cameras mounted on the backs of their large trucks connected to TV monitors in the cab. This enables the driver of the truck to see what's happening behind him in the event that his mirrors aren't giving him enough information. This is an extremely cheap solution to what I have discovered is a pervasive problem. (And given the amount for which we're suing the operators of the dump truck, they'll wish they'd have installed such a system.)

So... do you know how difficult it is to get a lame-ass GOP bitch like Santorum to even *talk* to you about, say, regulations stating that such systems should be mandatory? They'll laugh at you. The Republicans hate OSHA with a passion. They hate regulation of any kind, even (and some might say especially) when it saves lives. Especially when those lives are blue-collar union members.

I probably shouldn't divulge any more specifics on this, but I will say this: Anyone who supports Casey is good in my book.

I live in Mass, so my reps (for the most part) do what I want them to do. I spend most of my political capital on other parts of the country, where it looks like I can get a like minded pol in office.

Casey is my number one prority in 2006.

But my family does. I was living in California for quite a while, and I now reside in the UK. Quite frankly, I haven't even bothered contacting Scrotum about this, as all my previous dealings with him amounted to nothing. He really doesn't give a flying fuck about the people he represents. Stupid ass doesn't even really live in PA.

Casey, on the other hand, is a good man. I have a lot of respect for him and his accomplishments. If anyone deserves to represent PA, he does. It's rare that I find a politician I actually like, but he seems like a decent guy.
