Forecast: Just heard temp and heat index for tomorrow...

I just heard, on my local radio station - announcer said high of 96 degrees tomorrow, with a heat index of 110 degrees. He sounded really cheerful, like this is a normal thing.

Holy crap!! I live in the Ohio valley, and I don't remember EVER having a heat index that high here. Maybe those of you who live around Arizona are used to that sort of thing, but this is really alarming. If anyone doesn't think that's waaay out of the ordinary for the midwest please let me know. Am I over reacting?

I've been staying in the house as much as possible. I step outside for a minute and I'm sweating like crazy. I can't wait until the fall.

2. It was 104 degrees actual in Chicago the day I was born, almost

58 years ago. Weather happens, but living in BushWorld everything seems worse than it is. That does not mean global warming isn't real-just that it's been hot before.

3. Since the end of June,

right now is the first day I have been able to shut off my A/C; not just the heat (mid 80s to 90), but humidity. Yesterday was BRUTAL with the humidity; just about 90 too.

I live on Long Island. Cannot WAIT for Fall.

4. I'm in L.A. and it's really, really hot. I finally went to the toy store

& bought a kiddie inflatable pool and have just been sitting in it all day - it really works to keep you cool.

it is SOOOOOOO humid (bizarre for this late in July) that I don't think a pool would help much, and the water would be 100 degrees PDQ. I will stay inside. I went out for 5 minutes just now to move a sprinkler and it felt like Charleston, SC out there. Nearly 110 Thurs, Fri, and today.

5. BREAKING: GEORGE BUSH TO START A GLOBAL WAR ON WEATHER.

The evil terrorist organization Al-Weather, manned by Al Bin Roker, is out once again causing heat waves, hurricanes aplenty, tornadoes, tsunami, and lightning storms.

(makes just as much sense as the other wars we're fighting and losing - the war on drugs and the war on terror...)

Then comes how our industrial sect, with diminished laws and regulations, will only add to already strained conditions.

6. It's actually normal in my neck of the woods

here in the PNW. We haven't even had to sleep with a fan on yet. But this winter was very warm for us, hardly any snow in the mountains.

It's about 102° today with a heat index of 106°. The humidity is about 30% right now -- which is high for us.

That's pretty hot for Ohio, I gotta admit.

10. 99 where I live (mid-Missouri)

but it's supposed to be down to a high of 82 by Wednesday. This is unusual but not unheard of here, it varies every year. Last summer was cool here. When I first moved here from Cali, my first summer, 1995, it was above 100 for weeks that August; September 1st, it plummeted to 75.

11. At Hobby Airport in Houston it's 88

with a heat index of 96. I can't believe we're cooler than some of y'all are.

in the Ohio Valley. This is ridiculous weather.

It got hotter than normal earlier than normal and shows no sign of slowing down. We've had such a drought that my hubby can count on one hand the number of times he has mowed the lawn--definitely not normal for 3rd week in July.

We're in big trouble. Something really bad is happening with the weather patterns.

13. Minneapolis had nine straight days of 90+ temps, unheard of

in the past sixty years, I heard on Minn Pub Radio.

I lived in a desert valley in California and 110 degrees there was more comfortable than 90 in the midwest because the air was so dry your body cooled by evaporation. In 90% humidity there's no evaporation, and the heat just builds up.

Living in that desert, I downed about three quarts of water every time I walked past the sink.

Hard to believe it's cooler in Texas than upper midwest.
