I figured out what is bothering me about the London shooting
It's been bothering me all day and I've read both sides of the argument.

Here's what bothers me:

This is another case of pre-emptive strike against what someone MIGHT do.

My same problem with the war in Iraq.

4. You can understand the temptation
but you can also understand why it's wrong. Why are there so many people in the world who don't get it? Is this a genetic deficiency?

That's another reason why I wont carry a gun. I dont want to kill someone accidently. Not I am pro second ammendment I am just saying I am personally against them.

5. Do you think they were orchestrated?
In particular the second wave? Sounds too suspicious to me. They could pull the first one off, but the second series they were totally bumbling idiots?

Sinking polls on BOTH sides of the pond? All of the shit hitting the fan here on the local front? Call me a doubting Thomasina, but something is rotten in Denmark(London/DC).

8. I have no idea and I'm not gonna speculate on that now
but I do agree with Scotland Yard. This is a tragedy.

7. And did you read the article where the mayor of london blames "terrorists"
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 06:32 PM by Solly Mack
for the man's death?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4711021.stm

They may as well blame terrorists for the torture at Abu Ghraib and Gitmo by that logic.

People CHOOSE to ALLOW fear to dominate their actions. People CHOOSE to ALLOW hate and fear to be their guide. People CHOOSE to rationalize away murder in the name of national security.

If you choose to allow justice to be over-ruled by fear...then YOU made that choice. No one made it for you...YOU did it.

Don't use the crimes of a terrorist to excuse your own criminal behavior. Don't rationalize away abandoning due process.

Much like Bush Inc has dishonored the deaths of those on September 11th...the UK is well on it's way to dishonoring those who died in their bombings.

You don't give up liberty....when you do, the terrorists have already won.

9. I'm surprised
Ken Livingstone blamed the 7/7 attacks on the West's flawed foreign policy:

"We created these people. We built them up. We funded them."

I always thought it was a given that race was a driving force in all dreams of imperialism.

12. Interesting little reversal there
He's probably under a lot of pressure to lash out against terrorists, at least for the short term.

Londoners are, as many New Yorkers were after 9/11, not in a particularly analytical mood.

14. so true - and now that it turns out he wasn't involved in terrorism
Do the police think that an "oops" or "tragic mistake" is supposed to somehow do what exactly? bring him back to life? Or somehow are we supposed to believe that because the cops meant well it was all okay?

:puke:

what was it the was it the wise old wizard Gandalf said regarding Gollum? "Deserves death? I dare say he does. And some that die deserve life, can you give them that?" (paraphrasing from memory there)

They had their hands on him - why not arrest him and see what he knows as opposed to putting five bullets in his head at close range?

20. If a pursuing posse scared me enough to run
a mere turnstile wouldn't cause me to stop and surrender. I doubt it would deter you either.
