NYT: White House officals talked to FBI without lawyers about Plame
Edited on Sat Jul-23-05 08:02 PM by Halliburton
The White House was so cocky they didn't consult with lawyers when they talked to the FBI.
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/24/politics/politicsspecial1/24leak.html
<snip>
By several accounts, some government officials initially did not take the case seriously, not bothering to retain lawyers before they were interviewed by F.B.I. agents. One person close to Mr. Powell said he did not have a lawyer when he testified to the grand jury investigating the leak and does not have one now.

The blasé attitude might have been encouraged in part by official statements from Scott McClellan, Mr. Fleischer's replacement as White House press secretary, that Mr. Rove and other officials had played no role in leaking Ms. Wilson's identity.
<snip>

This article came out suprisingly early. Usually the Times doesn't post articles on their website until after 9PM.

3. The whole thing is surprisingly odd
when one looks at the whole scenario. Isn't it odd? Did the bush administration really think that they are untouchable. I worry that this thing may just end up being a 'whitewash' and some other event will take over? Over the other end of the atlantic it will be interesting what the British will do? I think Congress should be asking - did the executive branch lie to us?

7. I guess if you believe in MIHOP LIHOP, then the outing was nothing to them
Think about that...

If they actually were able to pull off 9/11 without anyone asking questions for a long time, maybe they thought this was a fly on the wall.

9. Interesting....
I often wondered that. Why they had an exercise on 9/11 and the airforce/NORAD/Bush did zero to stop the real thing. Perhaps this will be added to the list of crimes one day?

5. While Rove & Libby are writing Tenet's speeches, Condi is saying this:
"Now, I can tell you," Ms. Rice said, "if the C.I.A., the director of central intelligence, had said, 'Take this out of the speech,' it would have been gone, without question."

Also, did you notice that the article refers to "Mr." Bush, not "President" Bush. Don't know if they've always done this & I just didn't notice before, but I do wonder if it's an indication of how the media really feels about the "president".

6. That could be a strategy: talking to FBI without lawyers - then
perhpas they could say they were not advised that anything they said could be used against them and it should be thrown out of court...

Of course the entire country would choke on anyone from the WH saying that...but these bastids have lied in our faces and congress let them get away with it...so why wouldn't they think they could get away with "no miranda" so to speak, also?

10. Yeah- Did they waive their rights?
That's what I wondered, too.
