My letter to the DLC website
As a lifelong Democrat, I am absolutely appalled by the reasoning that says we must appeal to "moderates" to regain political power. The Republicans have succeeded in moving th perceived center of American politics far to the right through 30 years of rhetorical discipline. Now you want to cede "the center' to them.

The job of the Democratic Party must be to lead so-called moderates back to the real, traditional center with a convincing progressive domestic program and a strong opposition to the growing religious/militarist Right.

Anything else is simply a cynical calculation that is destined to lose anyway.

a large donation check attached don't hold your breath waiting for an answer.:banghead:

On edit: Better you go to the DNC site and voice your opinion, better yet get a Howard Dean Democracy bond...be sure and add .01 to the amount if you do donate to show we support Gov Dean's attempt to wrest the Party away from the corporate DLC tools and return it to where it belongs: the grassroots.

2. And That Has Worked SOOOOO Well For Us, Hasn't It?
Exactly how many more seats must we lose before we even BEGIN to see the light? How many more State Legislators and County Councils will we lose with THAT reasoning?

This is going to start the flame game, I'm sure, but IMHO, the DLC is probably our last hope of preventing the breakup of the Party. We have to SELL our plans and our hopes in the Marketplace of IDEAS. Until we, as an ENTIRE GROUP, realize that, evrything else is simply a waste of breath...

Change is FINE, but if you don't WIN, you will change exactly NOTHING!!!!

your argument. My point is that it should never be the Democratic strategy to cater to the hypnotized "moderates" delusions, but to find effective ways of leading them back to their own self- interest.

5. And Exactly WHAT Are Thier Self-interests??
We've put ourselves in the position of appearing irrelevent to the point of inane...

Instead of telling the Average American Family WHY a Democrat Congress and President is GOOD for them, the loudest voices we have seem to push vast conspiracy theories, and call Christians "A Hate Group", while championing what has been spun to appear as an "Anti-Family" agenda...

You might not like hearing that, but THAT is what is costing us elections....

We are losing the battle in the Arena of Ideas...

Blame the MSM, blame Republican Spin or whatever, but the blame falls on US. And most especially ME, for not speaking out sooner...

6. No,
....the disgust and non-participation of half the voting population is what costs us elections.

And, to whom are we Irrelevant ? Exurban Rove-ite rubes who think God blesses llegal wars and immoral bigotry? We could use a lot more of that kind of irrelevance.

I'm not sure what conspiracy theories you are talking about, but it's not the Democrats who have used truly irrelevant national hot-button "issues' like gay marriage and flag burning to
libel its opposition. As far as being anti-family, the type of family the Repubs like to
use as a symbol -- working father, stay-at-home mom ---is shared by less than 10% of the population. It's all the other family arrangements that the Democrats should be
supporting.

Interests?

When a clear choice issue like social security was placed at the top pf the priority list by Bush--rather stupidly, it turns out-- the Dem position kicked his ass. The more he talked, the more he lost support. They should do the same on Cafta, on the deficit and taxes, on
medicare, gas mileage, on and on....people already agree with us on most important issues.
Now that Mr. "Look Over There -- a homo!" is being outed as the lying prick he is,
it's time to flex muscle, not continue to cave in.

10. Wrong. You are using their framework
The Arena of Ideas in partisan terms are the policies and values that affect the issues of power and wealth in this country (and the world).

That's where the Democrats should stake their tentpole, and fight.

The social issues are social, not political. Neither ideology has a monolithic view of them.

What the Democrats should be is Liberal on the issues of money and power, and Libertarian on issues of personal freedom and choice.

9. Maybe it's time for the party to break up.
I, for one, would love to see it. Perhaps, the DLC and the "moderate" wing of their natural allies the Republicans, can start a new party. They could call it, "The Pablum Party".

12. Another one of these posts?
Take a lesson, freepers: when you talk about "us", and whine about Democrats losing and how they need to become more like Republicans, you make yourself VERY obvious. I've seen 3 of you already today.

8. Well said, but futile. The DLC are neo-repugs.
They want to rid the party of progressive ideas and make it truly the "moderate"(D) wing of the republican party.

11. I wonder what response you'll get.
I sent a similar email to the DLC website in 2003, and an anonymous someone replied, informing me that they're not the Democratic party, and then gave me the national democratic party's website.

Fuckers.

I sent a second email chewing them out for their condescension.
