Malnourished children cling to life in Niger

A child receives treatment for malnutrition Sunday at a feeding center in Maradi, Niger.

MARADI, Niger (AP) -- Nasseiba Ali is the face of hunger in Niger. The 20-month-old girl weighs just 12 pounds, and her eyes are clouded at night, one of the symptoms of her chronic malnourishment.

Oxfam is there

Oxfam is already reaching 130,000 people in Niger, and others across the region.

Lives are being saved, but the scale of the catastrophe is enormous. With your help, we can reach more people.

2. God damn it, I'm embarrassed for us as a country. This should
NEVER, EVER happen - what a bunch of slimeballs we all are. Also nominated because I don't think Americans are appalled enough.

4. What can we do?
Bush* and his merry band of sociopaths have spent all of our money (and our children's money) killing children in Iraq and lining the pockets of Billionaires.

Nominated and kicked.

MARADI, Niger, 13 July 2005 – Children and women in Niger are bearing the brunt of this year’s food security crisis, brought on by a combination of drought and locust infestation during the 2004 growing season. In many villages of the Maradi Region in southern Niger, the lack of food has sent children begging on the streets.
