Asia's overall index fell five points to 29% in the few minutes it took to read that and write this.

I have no idea what normal is here, but something seems wrong.

6. Asia had that big earthquake today ...................7 point something ..

in the Nicobar Islands. Could they be increasing their use manyfold due to that?? Or maybe the bird flu thing in China is causing many more than usual to try to use the net??

7. Asia is a pretty big region

and it includes some pretty technologically advanced countries like Japan, and quite a few not-so-technologically-advanced. Here in Japan, I haven't had any recent problems with my Internet service.

9. If you look at the 24 hour trend, it looks pretty stable...

It looks like average packet loss for the past 24 hours is 50%.
AVG response time has increased but average response time is measured in miliseconds... so a jump from 300ms to 660ms is only an increase of 0.36 seconds. It just dropped down to 640ms in the latest report.

10. Doubtful ...

As has already been mentioned, the trend over the last 24 hours is fairly stable as far as these things go. Asia as a whole is plagued by slow and unstable connections. Japan and Hong Kong are usually fairly decent, but that's about it. I just now did a personal ping test for a few routers in those two places and experienced typical results.

Their rating is also based on a rather inexact method. All they do is ping various routers from different locations and then average the results. This does not take into account various factors that go into a more accurate estimation of network stability.

We've had questions about access time in SE Asia...this is really good. They have a utility that you can trace the various connect routes and the ping time.
