Discussing recent controversial comments by former Vermont governor and presidential candidate Howard Dean, Fox News political analyst Tammy Bruce said that electing Dean chairman of the Democratic National Committee was "like putting O.J. Simpson in charge of a battered women's shelter."
From the June 6 edition of Fox News Live:
BRIGITTE QUINN (anchor): Tammy, does it resonate with the base? A strategist for John Kerry made the point that he seems to be trying this class warfare strategy again, and this strategist for the John Kerry campaign says "that doesn't tend to work for us."
BRUCE: Well, it doesn't. Putting Howard Dean in charge of the Democratic Party is like putting O.J. Simpson in charge of a battered women's shelter.
During the segment, Bruce repeatedly identified herself as a Democrat; claimed that people like her made up the Democratic base; claimed that a Republican in the White House is evidence that Dean does not resonate with Democrats; and suggested that Democrats will not win "those red states" with Dean as DNC chairman. Bruce herself supported George W. Bush in 2004, and encouraged other Democrats to do the same.
Once the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women, Bruce is a nationally syndicated radio host and columnist. According to her website, her radio program is broadcast on 148 stations; it is syndicated by Talk Radio Network, which also syndicates conservative hosts such as Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham. Her columns have appeared on conservative news websites such as David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com, NewsMax.com, and MensNewsDaily.com.
