However, abortion rights may get chiseled away at for sure. If they make it a states rights issue, women with unwanted pregnancies will be more than welcome to my home state of California, which will always make it available because most of our politicians understand that it is not their role to force anyone to have a baby.

It's the next justice who replaces a moderate (there are no liberals on the court) that would overturn RvW.

But he could change any number of other abortion rulings that were 5-4 to 4-5 -- things like parental notification, funding, accessibiltiy. In that way, he would chip away at the right, without undermining it completely. And you can be sure that he would vote to overturn it if the vote came up.

Let's not forget that abortion is but one issue, and he would be the deciding vote on many other issues concerning the environment, corporate responsibility, etc., that have been 5-4 till now.

Approving him would be a disaster.
