That says someone was indeed sitting on top of him when he was shot. If possible, with image.

Shocked eyewitnesses had described how the victim, named as Jean Charles de Menezes, a 27-year-old electrician from Brazil, who had lived in this country for three years, had the look of a cornered rabbit before officers from the elite S019 firearms unit held him down and "unloaded" five pistol shots into his head.

How he was "held down" is open to debate. I've heard people say he was sat upon but I don't have any authoritative links to hand. To be honest though, I don't think that it matters; he was held down.

2. That really sounds like an execution rather than defending....

...police lives. This Menezes had no weapon, no bomb, was not a lethal threat to any of the well armed police who for whatever reason were in pursuit and this fellow was in total fear for his life. One of the eyewitness I heard on BBC several times that day who happened to be on the car where this happened said he say several of these plain clothes officers, all with weapons take this guy down physically, then one sat down on him, straddling the guy and he saw and heard five shots at point blank range fired into the victim. That was pretty much the way the above summary describes it also except for the straddling part.
