2. Yeah, I saw one for sale a few months ago
and anybody could buy one, I asked. I don't want to say where though as I don't care to encourage that sort of thing. It was an aboveboard shop, not some guy in a trenchcoat selling them along with his rofexes.

3. I'd rather carry one for self-protection than a gun, certainly.
If I lived in an area with a lot of crime and didn't feel safe going about my daily business -- if I was a woman living alone -- I might be tempted to carry something for protection. But I hate guns and have no interest in killing anyone.

It was rumored a waitress I worked with fifteen years ago had a taser -- maybe they were called something else then?

4. I don't know.
They said that taser makers are getting ready to launch a big push for sales to the general public and I'm calculating the possibility of getting zapped by a mugger or car thief while going out to my car after work.

5. Yes, that would totally suck.
However, it would beat being shot. I do think tasers should be treated exactly like guns in every respect: licensed, etc. And I think police should be trained to use them only when they would otherwise use a gun.

Police have been using them in situations when before, they'd have used other non-lethal tactics, and as it happens tasers are sometimes lethal.

I approve of tasers only when they replace guns.

6. Shot or tasered.
 I would consider that one a toss-up.
