Here is why: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,22989-1707480,00.html

He thought they were muggers.

2. thanks for the update
I don't normally read the on-line British papers, so likely wouldn't have seen this.

this man's only "crime" was living in a building where someone *suspected* of something lived too. that and "looking asian". oh, and wearing a jacket.
a crying shame.

13. His friends say his "uniform jacket"
was Levi's denim. NOT "dark, padded" He does not in any way, shape or form look "Asian" EVEN in the British sense. Not "dark skin." The "team" had pix and KNEW he was NOT the suspect they sought.

21. Frankly, I think they were hyped up on their training
and wanted to get a "Paki" to send a "message" to the 'hood. Unfortunately their "trainers" were not well-versed on ID in a multi-cultural society.

4. in BushWorld, incidents like this will be more and more common . . .
as BushCo's plan to totally control the population of common folk continues to expand . . . not only in Britain, but in the US as well . . . count on it . . .

5. what does this detail in the story tell you?
"There are eight separate flats in the block. When Mr
Menezes emerged from the communal front door just
after 9.30am, the police must have realised from the
photographs they carried that he was not one of the four
bombers. Even so they decided that he was “a likely
candidate” to follow because of his demeanour and
colour, so one group set off on foot after him. "

9. Revealed tonight they actually shot him
eighht times. Once in the shoulder the rest in the jaw and mouth. Nice.

This man was from sau paulo. The usual drill when screamed at by 3 men in plain clothes with Glocks is to run for your life.

11. This is heartbreaking, my sympathies to his friends and family. I hope
the British people show outrage about this. He wasn't even one of the men under surveillance, they allowed him to get on the bus which makes absolutely no sense if they truly thought he had a bomb, they had him on the ground and then fired 7 shots into his head.

Maybe this will be Britain's Kent State Epiphany when they say, STOP THE INSANITY!!!!

12. And there are people who try to justify the shooting. There is more
outrage about scruitnizing Bush's SCOTUS nominee than criticizing what the Brit cops did. It is maddening.

14. Even though he was clearly innocent I don't care
a guilty man would've deserved better treatment than that. There's no excuse for plain clothes cops to chase a man, give no verbal warning, then shot him eight times in the head area while he was being subdued on the ground by two men.

16. I'm still baffled by the 5 shots to the back of the head.
If he was trying to trigger a bomb then I can see the rational, but I would think that is what surveillance is for - make sure the guy has the goods before you assassinate him.

22. Exactly right. Headshots needed for a guy wearing a vest bomb
...or, as in this case, a denim jacket. The town has to be a little freaked out, following two bombing attempts. It's all pretty appalling

25. And they didn't identify themselves as police
"By far the most controversial claim comes from a number of witnesses who have cast doubt on police statements that they shouted a warning or identified themselves to the suspect before opening fire.

Lee Ruston, 32, who was on the platform, said that he did not hear any of the three shout “police” or anything like it. Mr Ruston, a construction company director, said that he saw two of the officers put on their blue baseball caps marked “police” but that the frightened electrician could not have seen that happen because he had his back to the officers and was running with his head down."

Another family member said that he had recently been attacked and robbed in that area by a gang of young white men and thought the plain-clothes officers were muggers.
