General Myers: recuitment is "a national issue"

US military needs 'noble' enlistees

THE head of the US armed forces, which face a sharp decline in new recruitment, called overnight for more Americans to enlist in the military to defend their country from the dangers of global extremism.

General Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, called recuitment "a national issue" at a press conference in Washington.
More than two years after the US invasion of Iraq, the military is comfortable with its record of retaining currently active and reserve soldiers, who total 2.4 million.

But recruiting new soldiers for what Myers called "very noble work" is a real problem for the Pentagon and the country, he said.

Despite a slight improvement in June, for instance, figures for new army recruits have fallen behind the overall target of 80,000 this year.

1. Draft Young Repukes!!!!
They supported Bush's warmongering, they can fight, die and get maimed defending that immoral war.

9. Unfortunately, its not always people
who support the war who end up fighting it. A buddy of mine just got shipped out for his 2nd term in Iraq. He isn't necessarily anti-war, but thinks that we shouldn't be occupying the country anymore. In his experience, the "Iraqi forces" are laughable (though he acknowledges they were pretty new when he came back the first time), only the soldiers in the "Green Zone" (he is a gunner on a humvee, which means being out in the field, away from the base) get the parties, concerts, Thanksgiving Bush visits, etc., and the Marine Corps. gets hand-me-down vehicles from the Army. I was also informed that the underside of the humvees is not armored either. Despite all of this however, he is making his way back for tour number two. When he gets home he will have spent 2.5 of his 4 year enlistment over in Iraq (One last note-he stopped his brother, also a friend of mine, from enlisting).

3. Yes, recruiting people to serve in an ill concieved, if not illegal war
is a national issue.

And the quickest way to fix that is to....YES! YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!!

Don't send enlistees off to become targets in an ill-concieved, if not illegal war.

7. Hopefully, this is not an indication
that the draft is in order soon (within the next 5 years)...I failed the hearing test for the Marine Corps. in 2001, but my brother is 15 years old and I'll be damned if he or anyone else in this country will be shipped out against their will. I would rather NOT have to protest this one.

8. As a vet, I really hope that Fitz can bust these crooks.
If not, and I hope I'm wrong, conscription might be the only way to wake up the sheeple.

Sad.

10. Ooohhhh, I'm chilly, is it drafty in here?
Come on people, you know it's going to happen. How many times has this administration said NO Draft? They have lied about EVERYTHING else, so why would this be any different?
