2. What if * can't find anyone with any dignity
that would be willing to serve in his administration?
Why would anyone who is qualified want to besmirch their reputation to do *'s dirty work?
Bolton may be the only warm willing body available.

4. Where'd They Get Their Fuggin' Crystal Ball
Edited on Mon Jul-25-05 08:35 PM by ThomWV
It was plain as the dick on a dog the day Frist flip flopped on bringing the nomination to the floor. Its an outrage, pure and simple, an outrage. The best we can hope for, and this would be a real hoot, is that one of the indictments to come from Fitzgerald will have Bolton's name on it, but after a recess appointment. Frog March the asshole out of the UN building, to the cheers of world leaders from around the globe.

5. Here's another view that it won't happen.
"The key is revealed in Clemons' latest post: He asserts that Bolton was a major source for NYT's Judith Miller, currently incarcerated for refusing to surrender a source's name to the Fitzgerald grand jury. Now, one has to toss in a couple of caveats here: Steve, of course, has to depend on an anonymous source that somehow "knows" that Bolton was an anonymous source for many of Miller's stories.

The other new wild card? SCOTUS nominee John Roberts.

His existence makes it impossible for the White House to recess appoint Bolton: If that were to occur, with speculation of Bolton possibly deceiving the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on top of the fact that he might be the source that Miller is protecting, Democrats would go ballistic. Even Democrats supporting Roberts might be inclined to filibuster the nomination in protest.

There's no way the administration would let that occur. Many like Bolton and feel that he is important -- but not so important that they would let an appointment that could only last until January 2007 endanger a lifetime appointee to the Supreme Court and while mustering all other necessary resources on a legal-political fight involving the president and vice president's closest aides. Too much to handle all at once.

Say good night, John."

7. Recess Apt for bolton?
If that is the case then we shouldn't give Roberts the 60 votes.

9. Here's what the web's "John Bolton expert" Steve Clemons has to say today
<snip>

Robert George -- a conservative -- articulated well the reasons he thinks that the John Bolton nomination is dead, both by formal confirmation by the Senate as well as by recess appointment.

Today, AP's Terence Hunt tells another story and writes that he heard the White House actually hinting that Bolton would possibly get a recess appointment.

This alleged nuance, reportecd by Hunt, is important because McClellan and others speaking on behalf of the President have never moved beyond their predictable bleat that Bolton deserved and should get an up-or-down vote. They never mentioned recess appointment -- or anything that vaguely sounded like it. I think that Hunt may be overstating the White House's "hint" of a recess appointment, but McClellan's words can be read either way.

<snip>

We are getting close to August. The White House has got to figure out whether it end-runs the Senate on Bolton or not.

But there is new material emerging that could finally end this interesting political drama.
