Britain, France Agree on Anti-Terror Needs

LONDON - Spurred by the bombings in London and in Egypt, British and French leaders agreed Monday to cooperate more closely in the fight against terrorism.

French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin's visit to London was planned to discuss Britain's presidency of the European Union, but British Prime Minister Tony Blair said the two addressed the need for new anti-terrorism measures.

They discussed exchanging the names of people suspected of "trying to incite or foment" extremism, swapping tapped telephone and other communications data and how to protect vulnerable sites in their countries, Blair said at a joint news conference.

"I think there was a great deal of common ground in how we analyze and perceive this problem, and how we can best deal with it," he said.
