Santorum said that a legislature has the right to prohibit birth contol
He's on Aaron Brown right now and Aaron is grilling him...

Ricky said Roe v. Wade was wrong.

He said that the Connecticut birth control case was wrongly decided -- that the government should have the right to ban birth control.

He supports the constitutional right to privacy in cases of search and seizure.

But not birth control? You fucking idiot.

But we're all gonna work our asses off to get him the hell OUT of the Senate!

Bob Casey Jr. may barely have a pulse, and I disagree with his stance on abortion.

But he's a Democrat and he ISN'T RickyBoy. So he's got my full support, if he's the nominee.

73. It's the next logical step.
If you're trying to subjugate women, the next logical step after
banning abortion (or making it impractically difficultto obtain)
is to ban contraception.

Reversing Griswold v Connecticut would resolve a lot of legal
problems that face the Reich Wing.

I understand that a lot of the really outrageous and assclownish things these people come up with are meant to reach out to one or another of their bases, but surely not even most of the fundies for whom abortion is more important than anything else in the universe, surely not even most of these people can actually be in favor of this, can they? does he just know he's going to lose his next election and he's positioning himself as the male Ann Coulter (hmm, on second thought, assuming she actually has working female reproductive organs, I'd imagine that she uses it herself and probably wouldn't be in favor of banning it either)

They just don't talk about it.

This is their real objective.

I saw many links on this, but I don't have them anymore.

After they outlaw Roe, this is next.

They just don't have the balls/ovaries to say it too often openly.

They just don't like the idea of anybody having sex for fun or even at all.

That is it in a nutshell.

94. The fundies think birth control pills are a form of abortion...
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 09:16 PM by Raksha
...because they prevent implantation if an ovum should get released and fertilized. I used to waste a lot of time arguing with the anti-abortion faction on the various religion boards I frequent. When they say "life begins at conception" they absolutely mean from the very second of conception! There is no difference in their minds between a zygote and a full-term fetus. They call a zygote a "baby" and count the unknown number of zygotes flushed away by birth control pills as part of the "abortion Holocaust."

That's why I gave up arguing with them. They have absolutely NO respect for human consciousness and refuse to take it into account when talking about "human life." In fact, they consistently favor "human life" in the most unconscious and vegetative state it can possibly exist in (think Terry Schiavo). Since to me human consciousness (not human DNA) is the defining characteristic of a "human being," I decided there was no possible common ground and stopped debating abortion with them at all.

But that's why Santorum et al. want to ban birth control pills.

99. He IS pandering to a small but vocal and powerful group of voters, and
banning birth control has been part of the Reich wing religious agenda from the start. Subjugation of women is high on their "to do" list. Women who can't control their reproduction are not going to be very successful controlling any other areas of their lives, so it's a high priority with the radical "Christian" extremists running the right wing these days.

58. I have never met someone opposed to birth control before.
I mean, agree or disagree...people have opinions on abortion and they are entitled to them. But I can't seem to come up with a good justification for banning birth control.

Other than people in power wanting to control every aspect of our morality, of course.

59. Well then you're lucky
Every fundie I've ever argued with talks about how birth control pills cause abortions in some instances. (And don't start yelling at me about implantation....they do not care. If it's fertilized, it's a life to them whether or not it's attached to the uterine wall.)

Believe me: they are going to try to outlaw the birth control pill.

Perhaps it won't be a bad thing: Hopefully they'll try and it will wake up the people out there who think the Republicans "aren't so bad."

61. Well, if any living cell is life, then menstruation is "abortion" too.
As is ejaculating without intent to procreate.

92. I knew a guy when I lived in NJ
Who gave another guy crap for using condoms for that same reason. He was a weird sort of wingnut with his religious views. He didn't have a problem with the guy having sex out of wedlock as much as he had a problem with preventing conception. He also believed that masturbation was "defiling" yourself. This same guy also frequented prostitutes.

I'm sure all that makes as much sense to you as it did me. These people are nuts.

But that was back in the Sixties. I didn't know there were any of those knuckle-draggers still around!

Because they can also prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. These people are unhinged and Santorum is a lunatic.

60. How can this guy get elected in Penn?
I mean I can see somewhere like Georgia.. but Pennsylvania? :wtf:

Whoever the Democrat is who runs against him needs to run 24/7 with commercials and his 'ban birth control' bit.

When he ran in 2000, the local TV stations played his commercials non-stop. The ads showed his family, including all 6 of his children, engaged in such gaggingly sweet play. My conservative dad just LOVED the ads and said he liked Santorum because he was such a "good family man". I told my dad not to believe the hype and check Rick's anti-family, pro-corporate profits voting record.

I don't know how my dad voted in the end, but a lot of people buy the TV ad image because they are too lazy to look beyond the window dressings.

We have to pull back the curtains and expose Rick for the greedy little hypocrite that he is.

82. I've been in GA for 22 yrs, and PA was red long before we were
Western PA & the Pittsburgh area are NOTORIOUS for their strict conservatism. It's the home of Richard Mellon Scaife and his local Pitts. newspaper; if you don't know who he is, look him up. He's been funding rightwing/fundie/neocon think tanks for decades.

Georgia became a "red state" under questionable circumstances by 2002; can you say "Ralph Reed" and "Diebold"? Still, Scaife was probably pulling strings while Reed was still in high school.

74. Link to Transcript HERE

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0507/25/asb.01.html You need to scroll down near the bottom third of the page to read it.

Excerpt below (and man, Santorum is without doubt a wacko)

BROWN: Do you think there's a right to privacy in the Constitution?

SANTORUM: No -- well, not the right to privacy as created under Roe v. Wade and all...

BROWN: Do you think there's a right to privacy in the Constitution?

SANTORUM: I think there's a right to unreasonable -- to unreasonable search and seizure...

BROWN: For example, if you'd been a Supreme Court judge in Griswold versus Connecticut, the famous birth control case came up, which centered around whether there was a right to privacy. Do you believe that was correctly decided?

SANTORUM: No, I don't. I write about it in the book. I don't.

BROWN: The state of Connecticut had the right to ban birth control for a married couple.

SANTORUM: I think they were wrong. It was a bad law.

98. They don't want to "limit" abortions, they want to END them. It's not
about "saving lives of little fetuses," it's about controlling women and especially our sexuality. Anybody who doesn't get that needs to really take a course in it or something. Oh, sure, I'm sure there are some people here and there for whom those little "unborn babies" of 12 - 20 days old mean so very, very much, but believe me, the psychological underpinning of the ENTIRE anti-abortion argument is controlling women and our sexuality -- and that includes a huge dose of PUNISHING us for our sexuality IF we don't use it appropriate (which is mostly, hardly at all).

He is a GOP leader.

So in essence, the GOP thinks birth control should be banned.

Now there is a 2006/2008 campaign issue!
