Sherole Eaton was the Deputy Director of Hocking County, Ohio who stood up for democracy when she told the Conyers Congressional Panel about the Triad Representative who asked her (and other election workers) to have the board cheat on the recount in order to avoid a hand count of all ballots. She also saw him dismantle the computer that was connected to the tabulator that had the November 2nd, election results on it. He dismantled this just a few days before Hocking County's incomplete recount. He said he was putting a patch on it because the clock battery was not working correctly.
She filed an Affidavit and became a Federal Witness. She is now a Federal Whistleblower.
After the recount, Sherole was forced out of the office by the Hocking Board on "Comp time" then returned and was fired by the Hocking BOE just a week prior to an unsuccessful brain surgery for an aneurysm.
A number of things have happened since - the Hocking Democrats asked for the resignation of the Democrat board members - they refused to resign. They state they serve at the will of Ken Blackwell and that he is the only one that can fire them.
Cliff Arnebeck of Alliance for Democracy filed a temporary restraining order with the court. More on this can be found at
http://www.ohiohonestelections.org Sherole has retained Kate Schulte, a worker's rights attorney to represent her in the whistleblower case.
This same board voted for Diebold to tabulate the Hocking votes.
It was also revealed in a board meeting following the action that the Republican Director of elections had planned a republican fundraiser inside the board office during her work hours. The Director admitted to collecting auction items for the fundraiser during the meeting. The Democrat Chair defended her saying he had no proof, despite her admission in a public meeting.
Since, charges have been filed against this same Republican Director for shredding registration documents prior to the 2004 election.
The board is meeting again Tuesday, July 26th at the Hocking Courthouse.
Sherole has had to pay $5,000 in legal expenses to get the ball rolling on her case. She charged this to a credit card.
