If The War on Terror Becomes a Battle of Wits, God Help Us

We sure have some stupid people in government, don't we? Al Qaeda creates these elegant, precisely coordinated attacks, and how do we respond to them? In a completely lead-footed, stupid way.

In Republican-controlled New York, for example, the cops have mounted a very theatrical defense of the transportation system. They're out in force at a number of subway stations, pulling people over and demanding to inspect their bags. But if you're looking to plant a bomb in the subway, all you have to do is walk a couple of blocks to the right or left and enter where there aren't any cops. Why wouldn't Al Qaeda think of this? The cops must figure they're just dumb Arabs.

I want to know, too, how many Americans really believed that Iraq was a threat to us. Let's be honest here - a lot of Americans did! We're not going to last very long if it comes down to a battle of wits. Stupid people get stupid government, and what's worse, they deserve it.
