Poll question: Fundies LOVE the Old Testament. What's W's "writing on the wall"?
If you're not up on your Bible, the original is "You have been judged and found wanting." (Not claiming to be a scholar myself; Google is my friend, and indicates the writing applied to the fall of Babylon. Hmmmm, where was Babylon again?)

4. Here 'tis from the KJV. Look out for Medes and Persians:
http://www.bartleby.com/108/27/5.html
24 ¶ Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written.

25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHAR'SIN.

26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.

27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.

28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

5. Proverbs 6:16-10
See who you think it applies to:

'These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren" (Proverbs 6:16-19)'

7. Daniel Still Sounds Prophetic Today
The Book of Daniel still sounds prophetic today. Iraq is a cobbled-together creation of British colonialists with unhappy components that would like to secede. The Medes were the forebears of today's Kurds and the Persians are, of course, the forebears of today's Iranians.

If that hand wrote the same thing on the wall of the US Capitol, could you imagine how the GOP/"Conservative" spin machine would attempt to distort the message?

8. Interesting speculation "The Genetic Bonds Between Kurds and Jews"
"The Genetic Bonds Between Kurds and Jews"
QUOTE
In 2001, a team of Israeli, German, and Indian scientists discovered that the majority of Jews around the world are closely related to the Kurdish people -- more closely than they are to the Semitic-speaking Arabs or any other population that was tested. The researchers sampled a total of 526 Y-chromosomes from 6 populations (Kurdish Jews, Kurdish Muslims, Palestinian Arabs, Sephardic Jews, Ashkenazic Jews, and Bedouin from southern Israel) and added extra data on 1321 persons from 12 populations (including Russians, Belarusians, Poles, Berbers, Portuguese, Spaniards, Arabs, Armenians, and Anatolian Turks). Most of the 95 Kurdish Muslim test subjects came from northern Iraq. Ashkenazic Jews have ancestors who lived in central and eastern Europe, while Sephardic Jews have ancestors from southwestern Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East. The Kurdish Jews and Sephardic Jews were found to be very close to each other. Both of these Jewish populations differed somewhat from Ashkenazic Jews, who mixed with European peoples during their diaspora. The researchers suggested that the approximately 12.7 percent of Ashkenazic Jews who have the Eu 19 chromosomes -- which are found among between 54 and 60 percent of Eastern European Christians -- descend paternally from eastern Europeans (such as Slavs) or Khazars. But the majority of Ashkenazic Jews, who possess Eu 9 and other chromosomes, descend paternally from Judeans who lived in Israel two thousand years ago. In the article in the November 2001 issue of The American Journal of Human Genetics, Ariella Oppenheim of the Hebrew University of Israel wrote that this new study revealed that Jews have a closer genetic relationship to populations in the northern Mediterranean (Kurds, Anatolian Turks, and Armenians) than to populations in the southern Mediterranean (Arabs and Bedouins).

10. Here are a few that come to mind:
"My people are destroyed by the lack of knowledge; because they have rejected knowledge, I will also reject them."
-- Hosea ("Prophet of Divine Law")

"Thus says the Lord, 'I know how many your sins are, and how grievous your crimes: oppressing the just, accepting bribes, repelling the needy in the courts.' "
-- Amos 5:12

"Woe to those who enact unjust statutes and who write oppressive decrees, depriving the needy of judgement and robbing my people's poor of their rights, making widows their plunder and orphans their prey."
-- Isaiah 10:1-2

"Thus says the Lord,'I hate, I spurn your feasts, I take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies. Your grain offerings, I will not accept, nor consider your well-fed peace offerings. And away with your noisy songs; I will not listen to the melodies of your harp.'

But let justice flow like a river, and mercy like an unfailing stream."
-- Amos 5:21-24

12. Yes, indeed.
And a lot of people found it uncomfortable to hear Martin bringing Amos to the national consciousness.
