All You Fascists
I'm gonna tell all you fascists, you may be surprised
People all over this world are getting organized
You're bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose

Race hatred cannot stop us, this one thing I know
Poll tax and Jim Crow and greed have got to go
You're bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose

All you fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You're bound to lose, you fascists
Are bound to lose

People of every color marching side by side
Marching across these fields where a million fascists died
You're bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose

All you fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You're bound to lose, you fascists
Are bound to lose

I'm going into this battle, take my union gun
Gonna end this world of slavery before this war is won
You're bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose

All you fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You're bound to lose, you fascists
Are bound to lose

I said, all you fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You fascists are bound to lose
You're bound to lose, you fascists
Are bound to lose

- 'All You Fascists,' Billy Bragg & Wilco

12. Mermaid Avenue Vol 2
Mermaid Avenue Vol 1 and 2 are my favorite CDs now, all Guthrie lyrics, put to music by Billy Bragg, Wilco. Vol 2 has "All You Fascists Are Bound To Lose" and the moving "Black Wind Blowing".

4. Song Of Choice
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 10:05 AM by seemslikeadream

Early every year, seeds are growing
Unseen, unheard, they lie beneath the ground
Would you know before the leaves are showing
That with weeds all your garden will abound?

If you close your eyes, stop your ears
Hold your mouth, how can you know?
The seeds you cannot see may not be there
The seeds you cannot hear may never grow

In January you've still got the choice
You can cut the weeds before they start to bud
If you leave them to grow higher, they'll silence your voice
And in December you may pay with your blood

Close your eyes, stop your ears
Close your mouth and take it slow
Let others take the lead and you bring up the rear
And later you can say you didn't know

Everyday another vulture takes flight
There's another danger born every morning
In the darkness of your blindness the beast will learn to bite
How can you fight if you can't recognize a warning?

Close your eyes, stop your ears
Close your mouth and then you know
Let others take the lead and you bring up the rear
And later you can say you didn't know

Today you may earn a living wage
Tomorrow you may be on the dole
Though there's millions going hungry, you needn't disengage
For it's them, not you, that's fallen in the hole

It's alright for you if you run with the pack
It's alright if you agree with all they do
If the fascist's party slowly climbing back
It's not here yet, so what's it got to do with you?

The weeds are all around us and they're growing
It will soon be too late for the knife
If you leave them on the wind that around the world is blowing
You may pay for your silence with your life

Close your eyes, stop your ears
Close your mouth, they're never there
And if it happens here, they'll never come for you
Because they'll know you really didn't care

Peggy Seeger

7. Kicked and nominated!
My two cents worth:
My favorite dark poet in all the world, Peter Sinfield, lyricist for the original King Crimson, said it all so well:

Epitaph

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams?

Confusion shall be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying

Between the iron gates of fate
The seeds of time were sown
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools...

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams?

Confusion shall be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying
Crying
Crying

8. All see you that, Will, and raise you a little Jimmy Cliff:
Well they tell me of a pie up in the sky
Waiting for me when I die
But between the day you're born and when you die
They never seem to hear even your cry
So as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now of what's mine
And then the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all
Ooh the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all

Well the oppressors are trying to keep me down
Trying to drive me underground
And they think that they have got the battle won
I say forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done
'Cause as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now of what's mine
And then the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all
Ooh the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all

And I keep on fighting for the things I want
Though I know that when you're dead you can't
But I'd rather be a free man in my grave
Than living as a puppet or a slave
So as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now of what's mine
And then the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all
Ooh the harder they come the harder they'll fall,
One and all

9. But that one's a little too dark even for me...
That is, my previous post...
Here is a song I wrote back in 1994; I know, you've never even HEARD of me, Mr. Pitt, or anyone else out there reading this... but I've a feeling my works are gonna be in real demand in about 3 or 4 hundred years...
If ANY flesh survives that long...

Raise Your Voices

People, have you heard the news?
There's a shadow upon the land
There's a New World Order comin'
And its time is near at hand

They're throwin' culture to the vultures
It's open season on the dove
And people on the street insult ya
And everybody laughs at love

There's babies bein' born with no brains
There's poison in the sea and skies
There's murder in the hearts of men again
And no one even wonders why

So won't you raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices high

We gotta get together now
We gotta shoot down their big balloon
We gotta find a way somehow
And we better do it soon

It's time for us to come together
Or none of us'll get much older
We gotta stand strong together
We gotta stand shoulder to shoulder

So won't you raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices high

Your children are the real victims
They're orphans of a silent war
And even now they must be wonderin'
What everybody's waitin' for

When everyone is tagged and numbered
And all arranged in little rows
There won't be any time to wonder
And there'll be nowhere left to go

So won't you raise your voices
Why don't you raise your voices
When will you raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices
It's time to raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices
Raise your voices high
High
High

15. There is something reassuring about that song...
Not just the lyrics but what they stand for. The fact that Woody Guthrie wrote that song, I assume in the `30s, gives hope to "we the people." That we can once again stand up against the fascists oppressors and win back our country.

16. One from the Runt...
We’ve been waiting so long,
We’ve been waiting for the sun to rise and shine
Shining still to give us the will
Can you hear me, the sound of my voice?
I am here to tell you I have made my choice
I’ve been listening to what’s been going down
There’s just too much talk and gossip going ’round
You may think that I’m a fool, but I know the answer
Words become a tool, anyone can use them
Take the golden rule, as the best example
Eyes that have seen will know what I mean

The time has come to take the bull by the horns
We’ve been so downhearted, we’ve been so forlorn
We get weak and we want to give in
But we still need each other if we want to win

Hold that line, baby hold that line
Get up boys and hit ’em one more time
We may be losing now but we can’t stop trying
So hold that line, baby hold that line

If you don’t know what to do about a world of trouble
You can pull it through if you need to and if
You believe it’s true, it will surely happen
Shining still, to give us the will
Bright as the day, to show us the way
Somehow, someday,
We need just one victory and we’re on our way
Prayin’ for it all day and fightin’ for it all night
Give us just one victory, it will be all right
We may feel about to fall but we go down fighting
You will hear the call if you only listen
Underneath it all we are here together shining still

17. Todd... he da man!
Forgotten hero of a generation hidden for so long now, but still vital in spirit...
ANOTHER from the great Todd Rundgren:

FREEDOM FIGHTERS

Tucked away in the darkest cupboard of your heart
There's a feeling you just can't let out
In a way you are just a soldier of the mind
You are marching, what are you marching about?
On your mark, now get set
Get back on your feet
Ain't down yet
You know we will get it
So don't you forget it

And the world rolls on
Your reward will come
(It's just a question of how and when!)

Look around, everyone is wondering where it's at
Do you wonder, or do you know?
Clap your hands!
Raise your voice
Some people will hide
They can't stand the noise
But we're freedom fighters
And we've got no choice

And the world rolls on
Your reward will come
(It's just a question of how and when!)

In a way you are just a soldier of the mind
In a way you are just a soldier of the mind

On your mark, now get set
Get back on your feet
Ain't down yet
We're ALL FREEDOM FIGHTERS
AND DON'T YOU FORGET IT!

And the world rolls on
And the truth will come
(It's just a question of how and when!)
And the change will come
(I can't believe my eyes)

29. That Commie Singer...
Just found this story...

In 1940 Woody recorded for Alan Lomax at the Library of Congress and throughout the decade for Moses Asch at Folkways Records. While Europe was gripped by fascism, Woody lambasted the USA’s homegrown fascists and Charles Lindbergh’s America First movement. Woody ended his song Lindbergh with the words:

And I’m gonna tell you workers,
’fore you cash in your checks:
They say ‘America First’,
but they mean ‘America Next!’

In 1941 Woody travelled to Portland, Oregon, to whip up support for a hugely ambitious rural electrification project. The Bonneville Power Administration was raising funds through public subscription to harness water power and employed Woody to record songs for a month. Woody waxed lyrical about the amazing sight of the Grand Coulee Dam and what electricity would bring to the rural Northwest. His recordings were played at meetings and rallies where people bought bonds to bring power lines over the countryside to their homes.

Woody was to sing numerous anti-fascist songs in the 1940s, especially with the Almanac Singers. The song Round and Round Hitler’s Grave confidently predicted the fascists’ demise. Woody has been credited with writing the verse:

Mussolini won’t last long
Tell you the reason why
We’re a-gonna salt his beef
And hang it up to dry.

The day after the song was broadcast on the This is War radio show in 1942 a New York newspaper ran a story headlined “Commie Singers Try to Infiltrate Radio”.

37. You're french anyway, you traitor...
do you remember me?
I really thought, you'd be french!

If I would only be a singer, I would like to infiltrate the good old free press of democracy's masterrace, too.
As far as the DLC goes, for the first time after WWII, lefties and unionists have left the blairist DLC dominated Social Democratic Party in Germany. And the other parties and the corporate media are in panic.

Just after one year it has become the strongest party in East-Germany (more than 30%) and a strong one in West-Germany (more than 7%). We will become a member of the parliament in the next election and the SPD - our "Democrats" - have no chance whatsoever to ever win again without us. I couldn't dream about this happening just 2 years ago. The difference so far is that it is not so much about middle-class issues and academics, it has much more to do with the Unemployed and the Workers.
And not intellectuals like me did start this thing, but Unionists and people with real connections to the state, workers are in.
All of these people forgotten by the "New Center" (Germany), "New Democrats" (USA), New Labour (GB). I just hope, this will happen in other European Nations and even more so in the USA, too. Even until now, before the elections, it has changed the whole political scene, the discussions. All other parties did somehow change their programms immediately in fear of us.
Don't call me a commie, I can't sing,

Dirk

33. A bit OT but...
my fav Guthrie song as performed by Billy Bragg/Wilco is this one... give a listen sometime.

Ingrid Bergman, Ingrid Bergman
Let's go make a picture
On the island of Stromboli
Ingrid Bergman

Ingrid Bergman, you're so pretty
You'd make any mountain quiver
You'd make fire fly from the crater
Ingrid Bergman

This old mountain it's been waiting
All its life for you to work it
For your hand to touch its hard rock
Ingrid Bergman
Ingrid Bergman

If you'll walk across my camera,
I will flash the world your story,
I will pay you more than money
Ingrid Bergman

Not by pennies dimes nor quarters
But with happy sons and daughters
And they'll sing around Stromboli
Ingrid Bergman

This old mountain it's been waiting
All its life for you to work it
For your hand to touch its hard rock
Ingrid Bergman

36. So,...now we fight.
Yes?

Yes.

We are more than just numbers, we have our own "octopus" stretching our tentacles into that tyranny which maliciously betrays and exploits us.

We are far stronger than the tyranny estimated. We have been armed with a fore-knowledge of the tyrants' positions and plans.

The fear imposed by the tyrants will now be turned against them,...and they will destroy themselves with fears they themselves created.
