Are any GOP issues about givng people MORE rights or are they all about
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 10:14 AM by Toots
taking away people's rights. They want to eliminate women's right to chose, people's right to protest anywhere (first ammendment zones), right to marry the one you love, right to express discontent by burning a symbol, right of transparency in government, etc. What have they ever offered that would grant People NOT corporations additional rights and/or freedoms? I think the "Right-Wing" truly hates us for our freedoms.

4. Gun rights are a cheap way to placate vitimized white males
It's cheaper to sell guns than fix problems. It reminds me of selling the Native Americans beads and blankets for Manhattan island.

5. I don't disagree. It's been very effective for them politically, though.

7. Check out this Charlton Heston speech excerpt
Civil Rights Documents Web Published By ACRR

Charlton Heston's Keynote Address at the Free Congress Foundation's 20th Anniversary Gala

December 20, 1997

Now, I am not really here to talk about the Second Amendment of the NRA, but
the gun issue clearly brings into focus the warfare that's going on.

Rank-and-file Americans wake up every morning, increasingly bewildered and
confused at why their views make them lesser citizens. After enough
breakfast-table TV hyping tattooed sex-slaves on the next Rikki Lake, enough
gun-glutted movies and tabloid shows, enough revisionist history books and
prime-time ridicule of religion, enough of the TV anchor who cocks her head,
clucks her tongue and sighs about guns causing crime and finally the message
gets through: Heaven help the God-fearing, law-abiding, Caucasian, middle
class, Protestant, or-even worse- admitted heterosexual, gun-owning or-even
worse-NRA-card-carrying, average working stiff, or-even worse-male working
stiff, because not only don't you count, you're a downright obstacle to
social progress. Your tax dollars may be just as delightfully green as you
hand them over, but your voice deserves a lower decibel level, your opinion
is less enlightened, your media access is insignificant. And frankly,
mister, you need to wake up, wise up and learn a little something about your
new America... and until you do, would you mind shutting up?

That's why you didn't raise your hand. That's how cultural war works. And
you are losing."

It's not really about guns but race and white fears. The NRA used to be a rifle training organization but after the civil rights movement they were taken over by rascist neocons and have been used to lead the "culture wars".

10. What is NEW about that
My question was what NEW rights are they offering? They want to ammend our constitution to take away rights but are there any rights which we currently do not have that they advocate for? I can think of none.

11. They want more property rights for people--to reverse that awful Kelo
decision by the SCOTUS.

2. They SAY they're about giving more rights...
...but it's more rights for corporations and the filthy rich - not for you and me.

NGU.

6. Both
I think they are inconsistent and hypocritical on freedom. They want you to be free to own any gun you choose but not to do what you want with your body. They want you to be free to pollute but not to marry who you want. They want the freedom to fabricate corporate accounting records but won't tolerate protesting the government. They want freedom to express their Christian beliefs but not any other religious beliefs. They are for freedom when it suits their purposes.

8. Sure! They are constantly looking at ways to give the....
...top 1% more rights, more money, and more tax breaks!

I'm still waiting to be trickled-on by the trickle-down effect, but it's coming because they tell me it's coming!

Wheeeeee!!!!
