Newt Gingrich on Hillary Clinton
What do you make of this quote?

"You have to respect her. This is a first-class professional. And if Bill is 'first spouse,' it'll be one of the great moments."

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/politics/whispers/whisphome.htm

This is Newt Gingrich referring to Hillary and Bill Clinton! Can someone please explain to me what's going on? At what point did Gingrich become a fan of the Clintons, and if indeed he is, what does that say about the Clintons and/or Gingrich?

2. Can you say Sell-Out?
I think you can. Hillary is moving towards the center for her candidacy.

11. Moving to the center indeed
Apparently it's working if it got Newt Gingrich to praise her in this fashion.

3. He respects her ability
Not her policy or what he thinks her morals are.

By the same token I think that Rove is a good at politics - I respect his skill - but I think his policies and his morals are definately lacking.

5. I can see that part of it, but...
To say that if Bill Clinton became first spouse it would be a great moment says by default that Gingrich thinks it would be a great moment if Hillary were elected president. I wouldn't be so suspicious if he'd left off that last part.

13. It could be that he means it would be great for Republicans
I mean a woman president and Clinton as first "lady?" Great for voting drives among the neanderthal vote.

4. Here's my take: It would be very good for corporatists everywhere
if Hillary got into the WH. It would pacify much of the left, and allow the privateers to proceed with their agenda.

How much of his Contract With (read "On") America was concerned with freeing the privateers to defraud people?

7. Newt is just hedging his bets
Hillary appears to have come to some agreement with the power structure Newt and Grover have built. If she gets in in 2008, the power behind the throne continues business as usual.

IMHO

8. At what point did Bill Clinton become a fan of the Bushes?
Given their voracity in destroying him, Clinton never seemed too angry... he was a centrist and recent years having Bill being oddly very friendly to that family.

9. Yes, that too
Couple Bill's recent friendship with Bush Sr. & Babs with this Gingrich quote and things start to smell rotten in Denmark.

14. If John Adams can forgive Thomas Jefferson for what he did...
Which in it's day was just as bad as how Bush Sr. attacked Bill...I guess two men no longer in office can be friends....

12. The same Newt
whose mother told Connie Chung that he referred to Hillary as a "bitch." My guess is that Newt, like most repukes, are practically giddy at the thought of having Hillary run for president. Nothing could galvanize the right more than that.

15. I have suspected the Clintons cut a deal for some time.
At least since the Tsunami tour, if not after Bill's diagnosis of the failed 2004 Kerry campaign.

He's on the team now, and I have a great respect for Clinton, but that's the only thing I can think of to explain his behavior.

Perhaps he feels that we're already in checkmate and wants on the winning team.

and why not? She's been a staunch supporter of some of their dearest pet projects.
