Tony Blair sounded like he was going berserk this AM--the print
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 01:48 PM by Gloria
stories about his comments about terrorism don't do them justice.

I woke up to the BBC World Service and heard the report and an audio clip on Newshour: (very short)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/meta/tx/nb/newshour1200_au_nb.ram

(start at minute 1:55/2:00) right at the start of the clip

During the course of another show I heard more and heard him call linking Iraq to the causes of terror acts "an obscenity" which had been reported, but excluded from the above link.

He sounded absolutely crazed....a later report starting at 1:02:20/2:00 on the above clip mentioned that he was "irritated" at the suggestion. (start of the second hour)

The full briefing is also at the main BBC World Service site, but I didn't have the stomach to listen to it to find him ranting about "obscenity."

1. He's scared sh*tless.
His numbers are plummeting, he's probably regretting the day he ever laid eyes on our beloved shit-fer-brains phony president.

2. Some things are obvious...
... even to the faithful. Tony doesn't want to lose the few remaining faithful.

I suspect he's starting to feel much like John Profumo did after the pictures of Christine Keeler began to appear in the tabloids... a bit weak in the knees and more than a little sour in the stomach, and it's affecting his general demeanor and disposition. :)

4. I can't stand him anymore.
He should grow up and live in the real world, one where violent actions have predictable reactions.

5. He's desperate
Blair's backed himself into a corner and he's desperate to avoid any suggestion that his actions have created the current situation. He's forced therefore, to make absurd and barely coherent statements as we witnessed today. Some of the highlights include:

. The continual and shrill claims that the terrorists are "evil" and there can't possibly be any explanation for what they do. He's been peddling this line for a while but it's worrying to me that he can't seem to see the distinction between recognising the cause of the terrorist's motives and actually supporting what they do. The problem with this argument is that it's nothing more than an insult to a group of people who are clearly very, very dangerous. He's poking a big stick in the belly of a wild animal.

. He also, incredibly, claimed that the suicide bombers have claimed more lives than allied forces have in Iraq. This was a knee-jerk response to a question from a Sky News reporter who pointed out the number of civilian lives that have been quashed by allied forces. None-the-less, it's so desperate a lie that it demonstrates Blair's fear of political retribution and the imperative need for him to draw attention away from the disaster he's helped to create.

. He also suggested that anyone who claims that there is a connection between a war-mongering foreign policy and being a target for terrorists is somehow, a terrorist sympathiser. This is an amazing statement because it means thousands upon thousands of Britons are now terrorist sympathisers in Blair's eyes in addition to his own advisors and several members of parliament. I can't imagine how he thinks this helps.

He talked a lot today but said very little and quite frankly I couldn't believe I was hearing half of it. His tongue ran away with him once and twice and I suspect he's now regretting it.

To my eyes, he's clearly delusional and lost all sense of rationality. I just hope the other Labour MPs have the good sense to smell his fear and jettison him at the earliest oppurtunity. The current situation needs cooler heads in charge.
