What is the "Parents Television Council"?
A common scold named Cheryl Rhoads is on the "Celebrity Advisory Board" of the Parents Television Council and is working with the American Film Renaissance.

Does anyone know what the people are about or have any inside information about them? They claim to be non-political, but everything I see reeks of neo-conservative horse-shit.

I am going to do some research myself, but I am hoping to find folks here who may have the inside track.

Check out the article titled "Mainstream against Extremist" at http://record-eagle.com/ for some background info if you are interested.

Thanks

2. If I recall correctly...
They're actually an amazing organization. If it's the organization I'm thinking of, they're entirely responsible for the TV censorship craze following Janet Jackson's boobie.
While the FCC has received thousands of complaints since then, the vast majority have come from people working for this one organization.

6. Ya, you hit that nail on the head.
Check this out:

PTC's prominence became evident after analysis of complaints to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) underlined in Congressional hearings into the Janet Jackson Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy, in which one of Jackson's breasts, covered only by a nipple-shield, was momentarily displayed on network television; FCC chairman Michael Powell stated that the number of indecency complaints to the FCC had risen from 350 in the years 2000 and 2001, to 14,000 in 2002 and 240,000 in 2003.

Mediaweek estimates that up to 99.8% of the complaints lodged with the FCC in 2003 were filed by or through the PTC; and discounting Janet Jackson related complaints, 99.9% are made by or through PTC. As a result there is some concern that a single issue activist group is exerting undue influence on the process of media regulation in the US.

for things as stupid as two people laying in bed together because they think it's indecent. They account for something like 99.2% of all FCC complaints.

This is a link to a bio on his own web site, which says:

"Established in 1987, the MRC has made “media bias” a household term, tracking it daily and printing the compiled evidence biweekly in its well-known Notable Quotables, which also releases an annual “Best of NQ” edition selected by a nationwide panel of judges active in the news industry."

10. yes they are
This guy is one of the worst. He used to be on the cable shows, I haven't seen him as much lately. I hate that they don't tell viewers who these people are. If they knew there was a handful who all got their money from the same places, maybe they would understand when we call it a conspiracy.
