Another reason I'm against DLC-Military Recruiters on campus
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 05:17 PM by liveoaktx
I see no reason to assist the government in finding fresh meat for their illegal wars. I don't like it that the Pentagon is keeping a military recruitment database on minors without parental permission, don't like it that the law, through education of all things, allows military recruiters unlimited access to minor students both through personal information as well as presence on campus, and I don't like it that the military should access to students on college campuses when they discriminate.

This is not a minor point with me. If the DLC, through Al F wants to promote this idea, fine, he's way out in, excuse the expression, left field.

2. Many campuses have non-discrimination rules for recruiters
Some schools bar job recruiters who discriminate against gays and lesbians, which the Pentagon does. Why should military recruiters be exempt from that policy if those are the rules of a college or university?

5. Are you talking about yourself? Speaking for me, disliking
a position and not agreeing with it to the point of not supporting it does not equal hate.

8. Let me be clear-the DLC through Al From has put out a position
that colleges should be encouraged to open campuses to military recruiters in order to add more troops for this war.

There is a third position, at least, here, which is not the Republican Warmongering flavor, nor the DLC Warmongering flavor, but one that says that parents and students should be encouraged not to join up, that militarism that extends empire is immoral, and those in power, knowing that the war is not only illegal but promulgated on false premises, should speak up about it instead of wanting to send more people to die in a war of adventure.

10. Don't forget the Fascist No Child Left Behind Bill____recruiters getting
all students info. The parents can't even block their constant calls to steal their kids_they have military clearance. so all the poor kids can become BUSH YOUTH. I have to look up the roll vote on the fascist piece of shit legislation that you just now the DLC crats voted for.

11. Parents can opt out of giving the info to recruiters, it's part of NCLB
BUT it's negated by the Pentagon database that operates outside of the law, collects information on minors 16+ without parental permission. That said, both the NCLB and the Pentagon database can be opted out of via letters, although the Pentagon database still keeps the information, only flags it Don't Call.

What we need is to pass a law that requires OPT IN, and ONLY puts those kids in the Pentagon database IF the parents approve in writing. That's not gonna happen, but I've been told by Jamrs that's the only way they'll stop doing it.
