I can't do it anymore
Even though anyone in this Nation can have access to information...

Many people believe that Bill Clinton was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter and he refused

And that Social Security Privatization is a Good Thing and not some attempt to destroy FDR's New Deal

And that Democrats have obstructed a huge number of Bush's Judicial Nominees and they did it because they were Christian

I can't do this anymore. If people are going to be this ignorant, then what's the point?

1. We have to do it; there's no alternative.
We just keep trying to wake up the sheeple and help make the dems grow spines.

6. One of the first things we have to do
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 05:51 PM by Bluzmann57
is stop the "sheeple" comments. We are all Americans and the reagan/bush/rumsfeld/cheney regime accomplished part of their objective of dumbing down America. But people out here in America are getting fed up and starting to see the light. I'm sorry, but "sheeple" seems condescending to me. Logical dialogue and rationality are a must in our re-education of America. So please, no more name calling, except maybe for bush, etc. who should be called names. Names like criminal, disgrace, etc. But we need the people, the "common man" like me, so we have to stop offending the "sheeple".

11. I tend to agree with that
"Sheeple" is not good, although I'll readily admit to having used it at times.

2. Evolve.
Don't try to teach a pig to sing. If a pig responds to grits, tell him how democrats are gonna give him grits. If he responds to the whip, tell him how democrats are gonna protect him from it. Custom individualzed information for individual people.

4. I've been feeling the same way, lately.
I'm angry, I'm depressed because I can't seem to change anything. I can't believe how wilfully ignorant people are. I'm outraged that we have people of influence who are actually defending those who commit treason, defending those who invade countries based on a pack of lies, defending those who employ the politics of personal destruction.

I saw a photo of a monk on BBC today and I thought, "How nice to be in the world and yet not of the world."

Maybe it's just time to distance yourself a little bit, take a deep breath, and come back when you feel a little stronger.

7. The point is the ones who are not ignorant.

Do something nice for someone who is awake. Build on your existing relationships/contacts and get more. When you have people around you that are worth fighting for, you'll be much more inspired.

Always give an ignoramous a way to improve their standing with you, but don't lavish them with the same level of respect and goodwill you give your allies.

8. I thought about that last night. But I just can't NOT do it anymore
It would be easy to sit on the porch, watch the sky, pet the dog, eat, sleep and not give a thought to what goes on or speak out. But what if no one did... and sometimes the actions of the minority who are informed do make a difference and a change.

that the Clinton administration refused Sudan's offer to arrest and extradite Bin Laden in 1996, and that they also didn't want Sudan's huge intelligence file on him. Remember that it was 1996, they didn't really have much on him except perhaps a possible connection to the WTC bombing in 1993. Besides, I'm absloutely sure Bin Laden was still a US intelligence asset of sorts back then. One of his most trusted lieutenants at that time was Ali Mohammed, formerly a US Special Forces officer.

12. boy do i know the words to that song....
and have found that i need to retreat every now and then and get some perspective. People can and do remain above the fray of all this crap, and take care of their own side of the street. Not because they don't care, but because they can't afford to care, their plate is too full as it is. However one of my favorite sayings... when the student is ready the teacher appears....and vice-versa.

13. Yup. They really are a bunch of patsies. They really have had the
landscape inside their heads 'doneover by karl'. They process things with a filter that belongs to King Karl. They are an embarrassment to the world. Very scary & sad. You gotta pace yourself. Plant a garden. Don't hang on the boards too much. Sad growing up in a big healthy country and then all of a sudden it turns into a small place that is diminished because that is what a few sociopaths have decided to do for a living. And Ideologues (delusionals) are always sociopaths favorite playthings. Psychopaths love a good delusional. Toss in a village idiot. It is an old story.

The good news is the the Republican Party will be paying for this "little moment in history" forever when she finally blows. Some of them will never be able to come to terms that they were fooled. But the rest of the world doesn't drink the Kool-Aid and don't have the fundamental 'American belief system' that is the basis of the delusion. So billions will always look sadly upon the people you describe.

14. Quite symbolically
wash your hands of them. Look them right in the eye with a saddened expression, and wipe your hands like you're clearing cobwebs, and tell them. "I wash my hands of you, I wanted to help you see through the lies, to help you make an informed decision. Yet you cling to them. I can't help you, and only something horrible happening because of this may convince you."

You don't have to do it in front of them, but you have to realize that they are hopeless. It doesn't help your health trying to convince them, it'll only raise your blood pressure, and increase hostility. If someone chooses to hang themself, that's their choice, and you can't change that.

19. Don't get so discouraged...
If I might offer a solution.
Quit getting so worried about all the crap going on in Washington with the republican'ts and get out there and do something about making your neighborhood or community a better place to live. If we few like minded liberals behind enemy lines in SC can start making a difference in our town, then you can in yours. It makes us feel better every time we get out there and do something and we are building a reputation as a positive force in our hometown.

30. My reason for asking...
Is that if you look here at DU in the voting forums, you'll see I did a very significant amount of work a couple of years ago, and it turns out that 18181 votes scenario is not unlikely.
--

Ignorance is not a crime, or necessarily evil, it is just a fact of life, all of us are ignorant to some degree on various topics.

So while we (and I do it myself), get frustrated with people for not knowing what is going on with the GOP, our frustration should not be aimed at the masses so much as at the media which has refused to report basic facts which the masses have a right to know.

There are obviously shades of grey in the ignorance, there is willful ignorance (don't show me those torture pictures), ignorance because we're overworked and can't find the energy to seek anything beyond the TV, and there is innocent ignorance (people who really believe the TV would never lie).

My final point, is to try and view these folks as decent, because most of them are probably ignorant and misled through no fault of their own. We need to somehow reach out to them, and realizing the root problem with the media is important in feeling able to make that contact with them.

26. Feed your conviction from your love for others.
Edited on Tue Jul-26-05 06:22 PM by Just Me
Appreciate your awareness to choose to exercise the power of action (lots of folks don't even know their own power to do such things), in spite of all odds, and embrace that valuable intention and activity. Spread that power.

Give yourself and those who stand with you a hug, every single day.

Know you can do this, along with millions who are engaging, and you can handle the challenge.

Allow yourself to be pissed-off at those who are predators against our people.

Most of all, be a patient and persistent participant in something that helps us all. Never take for granted your drop in an expanding ocean of human hope,...please.

it nessesary to flush down the crapper of history. It's like the Peter Principle today_only with the media. People who own the media get to made the rules and the truth don't count anymore.
