Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 08:27 PM by NNN0LHI
I realize that the CIA is not part of our constitution, but where does their power begin and end at these days? What happens if Ashcroft says he will not investigate the White House and the CIA puts him in cuffs? Does anyone know anything about this? I don't. No tin foil stuff. Just facts as you may know them. Thanks in advance.

2. The CIA has no power to put anybody in cuffs0
Thats why they have to go to DOJ. THe FBI has arrest power, not the CIA. Congress can call for a special prosecutor (I think) if Ashcroft wont.

Both houses of Congress are in Pug hands. The judiciary needed to pry open Pandora's box (DC district, DC circuit, SCOTUS) are in Pug hands. The press is at the Pugs' beck and call.

It's not 1973. And the CIA isn't going to shove Ashcroft under a bus, or put the cuffs on him. This isn't Three Days of the Condor. This is an unholy brew of equal parts of Dilbert and PNAC.

Expect farce, not tragedy.

Bush is our Ceaucescu. He's not going without a struggle.

9. I can certainly understand why you believe that
But people are getting really pissed. And the CIA has its ways. The WH fucked with the wrong people. I could definitely see an independent investigation into this. It is a serious matter to violate the cover of a CIA agent (by the way Wilson has not confirmed that she IS and agent. Of course, he can't)

4. I really see no conflict developing ...
because DOJ is Asscrack. The CIA would take some firings if it got dicey but that kind of thing has happened before, re: Saturday Night Massacre that ended up with BORK as the Nixonian hit man.

Naw ... Bonehead could fire the shit out of Tennent, handpick the replacement and it would be all over but the shitstorm.

Bob Stevens of American Media (The first Anthrax victim), had pictures of Bush* and Victor Ashe in a well, lets just say a compromising position. Stevens was a photo editor for The Sun if you will remember. Apparently he was also the one that published photos of the Bush twins in a drunken brawl.

FBI investigators re-entered the AMI building in Boca Raton looking for the letter that delivered anthrax to the building where Bob Stevens, the nation's first anthrax victim in 23 years, worked. But it wasn't only mail they brought out. I have video provided by cnn of the FBI bringing out computers and such but no office furniture.
Why?

http://www.globalcomplexity.org/Death%20by%20Association.htm

Body no. 5: Bob Stevens died of a mysterious case of anthrax. He worked as a photo editor for American Media, who owns the National Enquirer. The Bush family suffered immense embarrassment at the hands of the Enquire when they published a photo of daughter Jenna, obviously drunk, cigarette in hand, cavorting on the floor with another drunken female. Stevens was the first person in 25 years in the US to die of the inhaled form of anthrax. This was a very high-grade military anthrax traced back to a Pentagon lab.

I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of that, AND really get tough on the WH leakers.

7. There are ways to get your way.
The CIA could begin to leak like a sieve. Every single thing that this admin has done to doctor evidence would be leaked to the press. Every bad move, lie, obfuscation by Chimp/Cheney/Rummy/Wolfie/Condie/Perle/Rove would be leaked like mad to any journalist willing to publish.

The CIA knows where the bodies are buried. The admin might have to put out a sacrificial lamb on this one. The CIA might demand Rove's head on a platter, and receive it.

26. As soon as they started making the noise that they were not going to
release the memo of that briefing, I knew that Bush knew.

And I still still say, the significance of the school video of Bush (if you have it make sure you save it) is that when people find out what he knew before 9-11, and THEN, watch that videotape again, they're going to be pissed. Really really pissed.

19. Call your Senators and Congressmen!
This needs to be investigated. They messed with the wrong group on this one. I think what someone else said in another thread makes sense, the CIA already knows the outcome but can't do anything about it. One of our CT reps sent my sister a research package on the Wilson affair, but offered no comment -- he is x-CIA and a repug. The research he sent seems pretty damning. The spooks stick together and I am sure they could put some pressure on people if they wanted to. If Asscroft won't do it the Congress should and I believe will.
My dream -- this ends with Cheney taking the fall (they are pretty much done with him) They get a more moderate VP -- then it is on to impeachment! Rep. Conyers asked everyone to call their Reps and Senators and ask for impeachment. I think the phones will be busy on Monday!

21. I second that, DODI! CALL- CALL-CALL-CALL-CALL!
FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING:

Here are some other numbers I dug up... (via www.congress.org)

At least, these are the numbers I have for various members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Ted Kennedy:

In Washington (202) 224 - 4543

In Boston (617) 565 = 3170

Dianne Feinstein:

In Washington (202) 224 - 3841

In L.A. (310) 914 - 7300

Richard Durbin:

In Washington (202) 224 - 2152

In Chicago (312) 353 - 4952

Charles Schumer:

In Washington (202) 224 - 6542

In NYC (212) 486 - 4430

Arlen Specter:

In Washington (202) 224 - 4254

In Philly (215) 597 - 7200

GUYS!!! This is ESSENTIAL, VITAL, CRITICAL!!!! These folks have to know we want answers! And they won't know unless they're nagged!

Here is a toll-free number for the Capitol Hill Switchboard:

1 (800) 648 - 3516 - they can switch you to anybody's office.

DO IT, FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING!!!

Folks, I've seen other posts here that very astutely remind that DOJ is ashcroft, after all, so this may not get very far. UNLESS... there are just mondo-insane amounts of pressure brought to bear. If the people are screaming and demanding it, Congress and the Senate really have no choice but to act. Look at what happened when Michael Powell and the FCC tried to ram that further deregulation crap down our throats. And WE THE PEOPLE stopped it, by going around them to Congress, which voted it down. Rethugs AS WELL AS DEMS, people. Yes, the rethugs got on the correct side of that issue, because they could not help but bow to public pressure.

THE SAME THING CAN HAPPEN HERE, TOO! But it absolutely requires pressure on that order.

25. It's clear to me that Tenet has something on the cabal
He's got the memos, the email, the pictures and the videotape.

And it most likely has to do with 9/11. If he didn't have it, he would not PERSONALLY be getting involved with this investigation. No way. He's not that stupid.

I read a while back on another board that many in the CIA HATE GHWBush because they blame him for many of their own behing "left out in the cold".

This may just be some old fashioned payback.

Edited on Sun Sep-28-03 05:30 AM by thebigidea
interesting bullshit background from the CSMonitor:

Tenet, to be sure, is a political professional who has considerable experience in the ways of Washington. According to inside accounts, he was first approached about staying on in his current position by Bush's father, himself a former director of the CIA. Bush senior, according to one official who was part of the transition team, subscribed to the theory that intelligence directors should be both apolitical and able to transcend administrations.

Moreover, Bush senior was much taken with Tenet at the 1999 opening of the George Bush Center for Intelligence - the renaming of the CIA compound in Langley, Va. "I was at the opening," says the official. "Bush was in tears. Then ran a big symposium at the Bush Center in Texas."

It wasn't long after that, the former intelligence official says, that "Tenet and young Bush bonded.... It was stature: He has a very warm personality."

http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/0716/p01s03-uspo.html
--

yeah, a very WARM personality. I'm sure that's what's keeping him in place.

"Mr. President, over the decades and to this very day, you have found many, many ways to help us fulfill our vital intelligence mission in behalf of the American people. You did not forget us, and we will never forget you. May God bless you and Mrs. Bush, and your wonderful family."

quotes CLINTON: "As Director, you accomplished a great deal. You restored morale and discipline to the Agency while publicly emphasizing the value of intelligence to the nation’s security. You also restored America’s trust in the CIA and the rest of the Intelligence Community."

restored America's trust in the CIA? Uh, Bill? BILL?!?!?!

AHahhqihfweihasiurhqierhtiqerhtiqith (explodes)

POPPY: "So to George Tenet, our great Director, and everyone at CIA, all I can say is that the gratitude in my heart literally knows no bounds."

LITERALLY KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

despite reports to the contrary, his heart WILL go on.

cue music. cue vomit.

EDIT -

oh shit, check this out:

POPPY: "Even though I'm a tranquil guy now at this stage of my life, I have nothing but contempt and anger for those who betray the trust by exposing the name of our sources. They are, in my view, the most insidious, of traitors."
