Watching CSpan - Privatization of mail delivery..
Anyone who is more knowledgeable about this amendment: Does it stand any chance of being passed?

This privatization is getting ridiculous. Who would they contract the work out to? Halliburton?

Damn, when will the sheep ever learn??

4. That's a terrible and STUPID idea...
Can anyone point to a SINGLE situation where privatizing a public service EVER worked to the benefit of the PUBLIC? I REALLY doubt it.

If this happens, it'll cost at least $5 to mail a letter, at least, and rural areas and rough urban neighborhoods can FORGET about getting service on a regular basis. This will be a hardship on the poor who can't afford computers/internet connection to pay bills online and send e-mail.

Stupid, stupid STUPID fucking idea. The 37-cent First Class Letter is the LAST bargain left in America, and some jackels like Hallibribum or Ross Perot or something will make out like a bandit while the rest of us get royally SCREWED.

It makes me THIS MAD:

5. Waxman was speaking at the hearing..
and his main concern was a privacy issue. Apparently, there would be little or no accounting for who would be looking at your mail etc..

I've looked over the Internet, including c-span.org, and I can't find anything relating to this broadcast.

7. Private companies would cherry pick the areas they want to
cover. Rural areas and poor neighborhoods would be out of luck.

There would also be problems with a Mail Delivery company striking a deal with one company to give it preference over their competition.

8. I got a Gallup survey about the post office two weeks ago.
It looked to me like they were desperately trying to prove that a privatized post office would be better than what we had now. I rated the p.o. excellent in everything but having enough mailboxes around.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't put it past Gallup to falsify the study and make it look like people aren't happy with the post office.

10. I only caught a snip..
but one puke politician was going on how it was proven again and again that privatization saves the taxpayers money, is more efficient etc... Funny, he didn't use Iraq & Halliburton as an example. LOL!!

But what got me was another puke came out against the privatization. And then Waxman spoke about the privacy concerns. You are giving a private contractor America's mail with no safeguards built in to protect the mailer's privacy.

From what I heard, every postmaster would have the option to contract the work out. Maybe I heard wrong, but I don't think so. And BTW, Waxman said that the postmasters are opposing this also.

17. Yes, and look how affordable they are!
At least $6 or $10 to even TOUCH your filthy piece of "correspondence"... plus gas surcharges and rural area surcharges and residential surcharges and pain-in-the-ass surcharges.

15. The reason, I think, they want to privitaze everything
is so they don't have to put any money into it. If it's not being paid for by the government they don't have to pay it. Just like the weather service. :eyes: It's so they can give the money to corporations who in turn give money to them. It's about the rich.

18. The beginning of the end, if you ask me
Other countries have been completely destroyed as most services became privatized. Bolivia privatized rainwater.
