Anybody hear of ICE for cell phones that the British use?

I received this email from my sister in law in FL. As my family now uses cell phones only, this sounds like a good idea, but I'd like to hear confirmation from any British DUers, please. btw-I have no idea who Jared is.

When I lost my purse once, the very good very nice person who found it called my mom. Who then bitched me out about losing my purse. But anyway! :crazy:

I also am very skeptical when it comes to emails such as this. The same sister in law recently sent me the one about *677, which I understand is a bunch of horse manure.

following the disaster in London, the Ambulance Service have launched a national "In case of Emergency ( ICE )" campaign.

The idea is that you store the word " I C E " in your mobile phone address book, and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency".

In an emergency situation ambulance and hospital staff will then be able to quickly find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them.

It's so simple that everyone can do it. Please do.

Please will you also cut/paste and email (not forward) this to everybody in your address book, it won't take too long before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

Mobile phone users are being urged to enter a number in their phone's memory with the acronym ICE, for In Case of Emergency, with the contact person's name and number.

Paramedics or police would be able to swiftly to find the number and use it to reach a relative or friend who could help identify deceased victims and treat injured ones, by providing vital personal information, including details of any medical conditions.

The campaign was launched in May this year, but had limited impact until the first series of London blasts. Those explosions rendered many victims unidentifiable, which sparked an e-mail campaign to spread the ICE idea around the world.

12. Another thing it does is enable someone

to return your cell phone if you lose it. I found a cellphone in a store and scrolled through the list. Found the one marked "home" and called and left a message that they could pick it up at the lost and found. Then when I turned it in, I told the guy that I had called and told them they could pick it up (he made a huge deal about how most people wouldn't turn in such an expensive phone, I wanted to be sure he wasn't tempted).
