What would it take for you to throw in the towel?
Edited on Wed Jul-27-05 11:18 AM by bmcatt
This is a semi-serious question and I'm interested in people's opinions. I've got what amount to two separate, but related, questions:

1) What would it take for you to decide that, no matter what, things in the US aren't going to get better and "they" have won?

2) Hypothesizing that the above situation has come to pass, what would you (and those members of your family who'd listen / support you) do? Would you leave the country and, if so, where would you go?

Edit: Please note - I'm not being defeatist, just... potentially pragmatic. "Always have a Plan B, C, D, and E... just in case."

1. Don't know about anyone else, but I can't even afford to
leave the country if I wanted to!

6. People do that out of anonymity.
Fear of being found.

Big whoop.

8. Whoops - unintentional
That'll teach me to go with my usual set of "online" defaults. My profile shows now but I'm not a "black hat". :-)

This is just a question that's been bugging me for a while. I could probably afford to pack up my possessions and family and leave the country, but, at this point, I'm not even sure where I'd go.

3. Nothing. I have guns. I will use them if needed.
But this is MY country. I'm not going anywhere.

4. Like everyone else: Money.
I'm cheap too.

If peak oil, et al, is true, we're ALL beyond recrimination anyway.

16. 33 years is a LONG time to bang your head against a wall.
After the 2004 election I gave up.

In fact, I've come to believe that Countries (like Country Clubs) are just another way to get your members bennies that non-members can't get so there. Obsolete.

9. We need health care, can't afford insurance, hubby is a Canadian,
so we're looking at Canadian real estate. It saddens me tremendously that I have to leave my country to have peace of mind again, but I love Canada and the "take care of each other" attitude of the people and I'm sure we'll be happy as clams.

11. Kent State convinced me that we lost. I just keep on fighting.
The idea that "if only the American people could see the truth" died at Kent State along with those 4 students. The American people did see the face of fascism and they embraced it.

So, I just do my trifling bit to bring the empire down.

13. That was a line that should never have been crossed.
That's when I knew that my government was capable of anything. I was 16 then, and I've had one eye on my back since.

I was born here, and I will die here. This is just as much my country as it is any quasi-fascist neo-cons. "They" haven't won till I stop fighting, and, to paraphrase them: They can have my country when the pry it from my cold, dead hands.
