my real identity to write letters to my congressperson supporting policies that I am strongly against.

I received a letter from my congress person thanking me for letting them know my opposition to HR 525, Small Business Health Fairness Act.

The problem is obvious... I never called or wrote to them about this issue and, in fact, I'm for this policy not against it.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I'm trying to get thru to this jerk's office now to set the record straight... but someone is writing letters or calling this reps office in my name and that's unacceptable.

Is it possible that this some gop trick?

2. if you DO write that congress person...

...it's just as likely that some staffer sent you the wrong form letter. Just for jollies, try writing letters both for and against some issue (different name, same return address)and watch your congress critter send you replies rationalizing their postion on both sides of the issue.

4. Not necessarily.

I'll never forget the first letter I wrote to a politician. I was angry about something that Daddy Bush did ( don't even remember what) and I poured my little 11year old heart into this letter for two weeks, getting my English teacher to correct it and my Mom to approve it.

I got back an autographed picture, and a letter thanking me for supporting the president.

That may have been when I became a Democrat.

BUT in this case... I never contacted anyone, not by letter or phone, about this issue.

6. I got a form letter from prez. Carter

thanking me for something I didn't write about.
I HAD written a supportive letter, but on a completely different issue. I don't remember what it was and I no longer have the letter. (no, I did not intentionally throw it away, but after several moves, it somehow fell through the cracks)

I was a little surprised, but realized that these guys probably never see the majority of correspondence that crosses their office.

7. I've had something like that happen but I don't think it was

because someone wrote something and stole my ID. I think it was because the public official I wrote too was a cocky asshole. I wrote regarding a new law that allows pharmacists not to fill scripts for BC. Of course I told him he should vote against it and he wrote back saying something like, thank you for supporting me in my fight to allow pharmacists to follow their religious beliefs etc.; followed by all this religious propaganda. It's obvious he never read any of the letters sent to him and just sent out this form letter saying thanks for supporting me on this. It was the epitome of arrogance and so typical of those fundie types.
