San Diego: Donna Frye faces former police chief Sanders in mayoral runoff.

This will be a close contest. Sanders was a very popular Police Chief (and a self proclaimed Led Zepplin fan), here in "America's Finest City".
I know that Frye is a dem but the SDUT story doesnt disclose what Sander's politics are.
I'm assuming he's a repub. Anyone know anything different?

1. He's never held an elected public office

His Web site does not mention party affiliation - http://www.jerrysandersformayor.com/

FWIW the office is non-partisan, as are city council seats.

The election is going to come down to Donna vs. anyone-but-Donna. It's likely to be very close.

4. Today's San Diego Union-Tribune identifies Sanders as a Republican
No surprise, but Sanders himself sure isn't broadcasting his party affiliation.

3. DFA and Donna Frye....she won 40% I think with 11 candidates. .
UPDATE:"Yesterday, Democracy for America helped propel DFA-List candidate Donna Frye one step closer to being elected Mayor of San Diego. Facing 11 opponents, she led the pack with over 40% of the vote and now goes to the runoff in November. We've proven we can make a difference, now help us do the same in Ohio."

Jim Dean was out there at the last minute as well. Here is a great write up of the last few days.

DFA for Donna BBQ
Martha Sullivan is on the Steering Committee of CA for Democracy, and a member of North San Diego DFA.

"This weekend, DFA supporters in San Diego gathered for the "DFA for Donna" Sunset BBQ in support of DFA-List candidate, Donna Frye. Donna is running for Mayor of San Diego and the latest poll results show that she's nearly at the 50% of the vote needed to win this race on Tuesday!

Jim Dean anchored a DFA Phone Bank at the International Brotherhood of Electrial Workers, and was joined by several DFAers and other grassroots political activists to call Frye "Yes" voters and remind them to vote by Tuesday, July 26th.

During the phone banking, a funny thing happened—who should show up on Jim Dean's call list but Charlie Imes, Chair of San Diego for Democracy! Jim dutifully called Charlie and left him a message exhorting him to vote for Donna by Tuesday—and then followed up with him later at the DFA for Donna Rally and Picnic. Now, that's Getting Out the Vote!"
