A (presumably true) story I remember.
From a lecture during one of my history classes:

A reporter had obtained an audience with Franklin Delano Roosevelt fairly early on in the course of the Great Depression.

The reporter said, "Mr. President, there are people starving out there. You've got to do something."

Roosevelt responded. "No sir. It is you who has to do something. You have to write about it and tell people so that THEN I CAN DO SOMETHING."

2. Very wise words, this is our country, and in order to maintain
this remains the country of the people, for the people, they should never become lax in thier contributions whether it be a phone call or letter writing only to thier government officials to ensure that what is happening right now and has been for quite some time been in play, does not become the precendent for our future generations of Americans to come in that government is answerable to no civilian...

The government works for us, we pay their salaries, we the people would do well to aid in ensuring all those that work in high government positions shall never fail to recognize where their true responsiblities lie when they claim to speak for all Americans as public officials...
