and my district's shelley moore capito - WV. a real stunner, as she's VERY close to delay and is the #2 recipient of his PAC's money (the national GOP is trying to get her to run against senator byrd, which may explain her vote)

1. Bobby Jindal and Charles Boustany from Louisiana

Both represent areas that have a lot of sugarcane farmers. I did see though that they did wait until the very end to vote....they were 2 of the final 9.

he's a pretty conservative Republican but really has no ties to DeLay so maybe that has something to do with him having a conscious every now and then

8. Yep, that would be William Jefferson

The Port of New Orleans wanted CAFTA passed big time. The port may have wanted CAFTA, but its passage will hurt the state in a big way since our largest agricultural crop is sugarcane. Thanks a lot Jefferson.....for nothing.

9. Howard Coble, R-NC

Bush came to NC week before last in an effort to get support for CAFTA. All the NC Congressional reps opposed CAFTA at that time except for Sue Myrick, Republican from the 9th district. Bush's original plan was to visit Coble's district in an effort to get him to change his vote, but Coble said that there was no way that he would vote for CAFTA. Coble's mother worked in a textile mill all his life, and he said that he could not vote for CAFTA because of his mother who had recently passed away having exceeded 90 years of life.

Charles Taylor, Republican from the 11th district, was a holdout until the last minute. He changed his mind and voted for CAFTA. No doubt he was promised lots of campaign cash. He is very vulnerable, and his opponent is a well-known former pro football player Heath Shuler.

10. Coble has changed his mind on Iraq too

He says that we need to bring the troops home. Interesting how some NC Republicans are having to distance themselves from Bush.

if so, i saw him on 'this week' a few weeks ago. he seemed like a decent, if not a tad slow and naive, kind of guy

12. No, that is Walter Jones

Walter Jones' district includes Camp LeJeune. Jones is also a former Democrat who fairly recently lost in a primary to Eva Clayton. His daddy was a Democratic congressman from NC. Could be that he figured a white guy would have a better chance running as a Republican, who knows.

Anyway, it is interesting that both Jones and Coble have recently come out in favor of pulling out of Iraq. Both voted against CAFTA too. Even young uber-rightwinger Patrick McHenry of NC voted against CAFTA. Republican Sue Myrick voted for it, but then most of her constituents live in Charlotte and she has a safe Republican district.

NC Republican Congressmen may be rightwing, but they ain't dumb. Charles Taylor must have been promised the moon to have voted for this thing.
