Senator Graham:
I might have addressed this letter to my own Senators, or I might have sent it to the President. But instead I write to you, today, because I believe you have some important power.
I write to you to express my concern over how the Bush administration is manipulating public opinion in the Rove-Plame affair. As far as I can tell, the Bush Administration has stonewalled any investigation into the leaks of Valerie Plame’s name and classified status to the general public, and continues to try to obstruct any independent inquiry into the matter.
While I am not from your state, I believe that your devotion to justice is genuine, and I therefore ask of you the following:
• Will you maintain your evident and well-founded principles, and hold the Bush Administration accountable for any leaks, purposeful or inadvertent, of classified, sensitive information that might threaten national security?
• Will you press the Administration to offer explanations for such leaks, including explanations that require legal rationales, if and when the Administration admits to these leaks?
• Will you demand that Congressional Hearings be convened if answers, to the questions listed above, remain unanswered by the Administration?
• Finally, can you honestly stand by while the Constitutional balance-of-powers is openly flaunted by an ignominiously chosen executive branch? Won’t you do your Constitutional duty and openly defy the Administration’s grab-for-power by convening committees that will inquire into the administration’s goals and purposes?
I sincerely hope that the spirit of the Constitution will be upheld over the next few years by persons such as you. If it is not, I wish that God may help us all through the darkness that must inevitably follow.
Please do the right thing.
Sincerely
(Kurtyboy) Citizen of the State of Washington
