Black GOP Candidate Takes Heat for Having Karl Rove at His Fundraiser
http://www.blackamericaweb.com/site.aspx/bawnews/steele728

An appearance by Karl Rove at a fundraiser for Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele could have the potential 2006 U.S. Senate candidate down and out before he even wins the Republican primary.

Steele, the first black to win statewide election in Maryland, has made it known that he is interested in seeking the Republican nomination for the seat soon to be vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Paul Sarbanes. Tuesday, Steele held an intimate fundraiser in Washington, but more than dollars were raised. Some political observers and politicians told BlackAmericaWeb.com they’re now scratching their heads over why Steele would host Rove, the assistant White House deputy chief of staff embroiled in a controversial leak of a CIA agent’s identity to journalists.

“I’m trying to figure out what’s going on,” Ron Walters, a political science professor at the University of Maryland told BlackAmericaWeb.com Wednesday. “In essence, I just think it’s a dumb thing for to do.”...

..."I just think that's a reflection of the arrogance of Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. and Lieutenant Governor Steele, that they, knowing what's happening with the cover-up and illegal actions taken by Mr. Rove, would still go ahead with this," Terry Lierman, chairman of the Maryland Democratic Party, told the Baltimore Sun Tuesday.

2. Guilty already?
"knowing what's happening with the cover-up and illegal actions taken by Mr. Rove"

(Sorry; not quite got the quote function figured out.)

I'm no fan of the Boy Genius, but is it a little hasty to declare his actions illegal before we find out what happened in the Grand Jury, and hear Fitzgerald's conclusions?

3. Yeah we don't want to call outing a CIA agent illegal.
After all, the right wing would NEVER call things like Whitewater illegal BEFORE the investigation was over! So, let's be good little sheeple and not call it like WE SEE IT. :sarcasm:

7. I thought "we" were better?
"the right wing would NEVER call things like Whitewater illegal BEFORE the investigation was over! So, let's be good little sheeple and not call it like WE SEE IT."

I was under the impression that the Starr investigation was not precisely the recommended role model; is the idea, rather, that since one overzealous and vindictive group pursued beyond any rational basis a mean-spirited and unjustified vendetta, that Democrats should follow suit?

I guess I'm from one of those backwater areas where following the law doesn't reduce one to being a sheep.
