Who's an Independent?

Not Green, not libertarian or socialist. Who's either registered an Independent or considers themselves independent because they aren't registered with either party? People who vote for the 'person' and not the party. Do you actually vote for Republicans that aren't friends, based on their record? What's the deal? Explain Yourselves!!!

I'm talking about DUers who say they're independent. Why? Do they really consider voting for a Republican? If not, why do they call themselves Independent?

3. I'm an Independent....

I have never voted for a Republican, I vote Dem, green or Indy. I Especially vote Indy and third party in local and state wide elections. I voted for Gore in 2k, and plan on voting for Dean in 2004. I will never register in any party, I loath the two party systems. We are the only industrialized nation that has a two party installed dictatorship to rule over a free nation :grr:.

You added that Green qualifier in there, I understand that. Your politics aren't strictly Democratic. I'm talking about people like BillyBunter down there, who said he's going to register Dem.

4. Not sure but ...

It seems I remember something about people who are registered as Independent Not being able to vote in the primary ? Odd you would post this .. I was thinking about it today and wondering what the point would be.

I've never voted for anything but a Democrat, though. I did some work on the Anderson campaign in 1980, but actually ended up voting for Carter, anyway.

If I ever get the time, I'm going to register Dem and get it over with.

10. I used to consider myself...

an independant, and had convinced myself that I would vote for the best person, regardless of party. That was amost always a Democrat.

However, Gingrich's "revolution" was the beginning of a return to absolute partisanship. The battle lines were drawn, and my loyalties are with the Democrats. On the national level, I will support the lamest, foulest scum running on the Democratic line over any Republican simply because I see them ruining the country and their power must be diluted.

OK, that's a bit overstated, but that's my gut talking. Fortunately, I haven't had to make such a choice yet. The only choices I have for national office are the two Senators and President. Our House rep is in a solidly Democratic district.

There are, of course, local elections,and that's where the real choices are. I am perfectly capable of supporting Republicans, Greens, or anyone else based on local issues and local politics. This state is pretty well held hostage to county machines of both major parties, and the rules for national elections don't apply.

(Not that this state is different from any other, of course.)

11. I was for 34 years..................

when I moved to Florida last fall I registered as a Democrat for the purpose of voting in the primaries. I can't ever recall voting for a Republican in all of that time though. Maybe once on the local level.
