frist bucks president....
it's on CNN

Dr. Bill Frist must be trying to get his "Dr." respect back, he's changed his tuned and is advocating stem cell research on embryonic stem cells, the ones that are going to be thrown away.

holy crap, bush is even threatening veto,

so did frist actually get his head rammed against the wall by logic, or is he setting himself up for an 08 run?

4. Brilliant or slow on the take?
How brilliant do you have to be to know that no words or deeds are too egregious to wipe out a GOP candidate? Twofold blunder that show he does not have what it takes to be a GOP Pres anyway.

First he wavered and wobbled on loyalty issues- as absurd as they were his actions were just as absurd and self-defeating. The GOP needs efficient predictability- even to the point of apparent intransigent imbecility- maybe especially so. Second he wavered on a powerful religious fringe group at its most arrogant looniest, when a craftier person would have put them in their place or stayed away. His mix of medicine and religious politics was so toxic no one would ever again take a prescription from this man seriously. Then he changes his mind and confirms that opinion.

The people may be made to forget but not the power brokers of the GOP. Frist seems at a loss how to deal with THEM. Be a loony stooge. Be a loony stooge. That is the Bush required GOP congressional role. If there is a brilliant way to aspire to the Bush throne doing that Frist certainly has not found it.

The pattern. All non inner Bush circle wannabes will be humiliated, broken and tamed to the leash- and then probably discarded scornfully anyway. The next non-Bushista President- if one is allowed- will have to settle for being a shamed and isolated dupe to get the title POTUS on his glorious resume. That goes for Dem or Repug but most ambitious contenders simply can't allow themselves to believe that. That is why many contenders are so pathetic and foolish seeking the(what will be to them) meaningless honorific.

I suspect the Emperor will deign only to appoint a completely inner circle successor until Bush III is ready to possess a more secure and easier reign. Probably they fear even to do that. By now maybe a Caesar like continuity is "necessary" to preserve their order. I would not doubt that this is much more probable than seeing Frist or Hagel "winning" an independent administration. Or everything falls apart.

2. Who would want to buck the president?
I guess Frist thinks this will help him when he runs for president.

5. One name will haunt him into 08: Schiavo
Doesn't matter what else he does or what new moderate causes he takes up. His intrusive grandstanding in that circus, while still holding his MD license, is unforgettable and unforgivable to all non-efungelicals zealots. He may win the primary but can never win the general election after that.
