Repub. parents got verbally attacked in Europe re: bush being like Hitler
I told them that everyoine in Europe hates Bush and my dad said "They have a liberal media over there." He is sooo brainwashed. The scary thing - is that he is a very intelligent person otherwise.

3. I'd love to see a "man on the street" interview from Europe
Not that that would ever happen with the US MSM.

4. Everyone everywhere hates Bush- except for about 44% of
Americans.. and even THAT figure is debatable. The
European press isn't necessarily liberal, it's simply not all corporate controlled American-style media.

8. Make that 44% of American voters...
which is probably closer to 15% of Americans. I talked to a lot of people who hated Bush, but couldn't bring themselves to vote for Kerry, so I suspect they stayed home with about 50% of eligible citizens. Then subtract some for those not of voting age or otherwise disqualified.

20. Please believe me...
I often have to travel about Europe.

Bush is a BIG JOKE over here. Even the politicians, who kiss his rear-end talk about how inept he is when the translators have left.

So, when Scottie talks about European allies, they are not that supportive of Bush in reality. Silvio B, who has an ego that matches Bush's cannot stand the guy, but is propped up by Bush.

6. I know of a Repub girl who had dozens of Europeans yell at her about *
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 04:02 PM by CottonBear
My Croation-born friend took her college roomate to Europe this summer. They were in Germany, Sweden and Croatia. The roomate is a Southern girl who had never traveled outside the USA. Her mom and dad vote Republican and that's why she does too. (My Croation-born friend is much smarter and would never vote for *. She is in the process of getting citizenship and can't vote yet. She lived in Germany, Bosnia and Croatia before immigrating to the USA.)

Invariably, the people that the girl was introduced to would ask her who she voted for when they found out she was American. She'd never have a chance to answer because they would immediately start to rant and rave about how awful and evil * is. The girl was incredibly surprised according to my friend. She had no idea that the rest of the world despises *. It was quite an eye-opening and mind-expanding vacation to say the least!

Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 05:35 PM by bobbieinok
before class, I made a comment that many Europeans were very angry at the US.....I got some honest, naive questions by freshmen and sophomores 'why?'

one of the students had done some sort of internship in London the previous summer, and she related what her roommates and colleagues told her.....another young woman had lived several years in Germany and Prague (parents were missionaries), and she talked about what she heard from friends, church members, etc

in the spring semester 2004, students from the Caribbean and Canada tried to convey the views of those in their countries......

American students were just stunned; they had had no idea

added: one student was adamant that the US was in a holy war against radial Islam in Iraq; when I said that Europeans didn't agree, she said Europeans just didn't understand because they weren't christian (this discussion occurred outside of class)

Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 10:57 AM by wake.up.america
Times. How about Die Zeit, Die Süddeutschezeitung, The Times of London, how about La Vanguardia, or El Pais? How about...

Tell that "student" to read Calvin, about Luther, Worms, etc...

I have Austrian friends who know more about the last US election than she does.

By the way, is it Christian to send troops to Iraq?

My goodness

They weren't harmed - just shaken up... I believe that people are often thrown into your path for a reason.

19. In Australia,
they hate Bush due to his environmental policies (that hole in the Ozone layer thing that gives Australians LOTS of skin cancer). Australian school children are required to wear wide-brimmed hats outside--no hat, no recess. I saw at least 3 store-front type "Skin Cancer Clinics" as I rode through Sydney one day.

A New Zealander I bumped into also decried his approach to the environment. His son said he and his friends think of the U.S. as a bunch of "northern hemisphere retards." I had a hard time disagreeing, having watched Americans allow two rounds of "voting irregularities" to launch a radical right-wing agenda.

I smell bullshit.

I spend a lot of time (three to four times a year) in Europe...mostly France, but Germany, Italy, Spain and UK as well. In all my years of travelling to Europe, especially during the "Chimp Years," I have NEVER had anyone "verbally attack" me. As much as I am integrated into European culture, trust me...I still stick out as an American.

If anyone has been "verbally attacked" for being an American, chances are they did/said something assinine and had it coming.

I'd ask them what they did to warrant such an attack, becuase trust me...it wasn't just because they were American.
