Pay Frist no attention...
Edited on Fri Jul-29-05 06:58 PM by madeline_con
The whole hoopla over Frist and federal monies for stem cell research, and Bush threatening to veto, is but another distraction.

What happened to the abuse photos and running Rove out on a rail?

BTW, moveon.org has a slogan contest about the Rove situation. Check it out. I like: Rove the voice of treason.

I hear Anderson Cooper's off to Niger to cover the hunger there. Two things:

thing 1: how convenient that people can now be confused wondering what happened to all the yellowcake, taking the heat off the Rove affair.

thing 2: In a recent program it was found that Anderson Cooper's desk, keyboard and telephone had the most bacteria anywhere in the studio. Is he being sent to Niger to kill a bunch of weak people? Who sent him? Who knew about it?

edited because I can't spell during first drafts. :(

1. fair weather repuke
depends on which way the majority winds are blowing and how deeply his feet are planted in the run-for-president field!

2. I edited, added more to original post...
Now, the press can talk ad nauseum about the sudden about face, and ask breathelesly, "Why?" on every show there is.

Too much going on that seems a bit too convenient in the "here's one more distraction" department.

5. hmmmm, could be both
distraction and trying to find what side of the fence he needs to be on to run for president.

3. Frist was so affable and confortable defying Bush & Cabal
that as I watched I felt sure Rove and Bush put him up to it. It is not only a distraction, it creates a possile end-run around the Administration that is acceptable. I don't really think they give a shit about the issue, other than for its supposed political traction.

By pushing Fristy out front in "polite opposition" to Bush's position, they create a chimera of pluralism -- as if there were really any way but the NeoCon's Highway.

You are either with us, or against us.

I suspect Frist's flip flop is a BushCo flim flam.

Call me jaded if you must. But that's my story and I'm stinking to it.

4. Thank you! I've found a soul mate
I've been attempting to get this "polite opposition" strategy across for weeks. And you did it so eloquently.
The Bushies do this constantly. And it works! They cover both sides publicly. Laura is used repeatedly as the polite voice of opposition. The press trumpeting her "I hope George picks a woman" for the Supreme Court. Right. Who, Laura? Which woman? And why? Never any specifics. But, hey, it's out there. Laura wanted a woman. Bush isn't a chauvinistic old white guy who wanted one of his political hacks as his nominee. Afterall, his wife wanted a woman! And Laura just shrugs prettily after his choice, "Oh, well. I tried."
Not really.
And Cheney makes outrageous statements (that Bush's racist, intolerant followers love) so Bush can make more moderate comments. And...everybody's happy.
It's so transparent. And so manipulative.
Yet the press and the gullible fall for it every time. Bushian marketing strategy.
Thank you so much.
I'm not alone!
(even many DUers fell for Laura being "pro-choice". Really? What has she ever done? Made a hazy comment years ago? But...since having the amazingly high-profile position of First Lady, what has Laura done to insure a woman's right to choose? Nothing. Nothing. Yet DUers fell into the trap. Well, Laura's pro-choice...No. Laura's a tool.)

9. Dang, we've got three...
I always thought there was a "faceted" approach; covering all angles, if you will, to the DUHbya admin.

Thanks for YOUR eloquence, too! :)

6. It's nothing more than a game of "good cop - bad cop".
"I suspect Frist's flip flop is a BushCo flim flam."

Oh, absolutely! Right on!

Big Pharma wants the research $$$$, it's as simple as that. Bush stays ideologically pure for the fundie base, Frist positions himself as a "reasonable" republican to appeal to the mainstream voters -- who overwhelmingly support stem cell research -- ahead of his coming run for the 2008 GOP nomination for president, and everybody's happy.

They plan on one-party rule from now on. All they need to do is run a bit of kubuki theater once in awhile -- to fool the masses into thinking that this country is still a democracy -- and the plan will continue to neatly fall into place.

11. I also
don't think Bush could care either way. Right now he's appealing still to the fundie base for whatever reason so he has to go against it and then it'll look like he and Frist are fighting. In an article I read on another board about this the article proclaimed that Bush told Frist to "vote his concenious". They know majority of the public wants this. Even Nancy Reagan has supported it and former president's Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton have written letters supporting her.

8. I agree. It's all an act and I ain't gonna fall for it!
He knows the idiot is going to veto the bill. This is nothing more than, as you said, another distraction. They have become transparent. Any thinking person can see right through their bullshit.

Don't look at KKKROVE! Look at Stem Cell Research!

Don't look at the DSM! Look at Stem Cell Research!

Don't look at Bolton! Look at Stem Cell Research!

Don't look at the Abu Ghraib pictures and videos! Look at Stem Cell Research!

Don't look at the shitty ass economy! Look at Stem Cell Research!

It's all a bunch of BULLSHIT!

12. And when they veto the bill
I bet they'll do an "oh look he vetoed" and shrug it off. It won't get much airplay since majority of the public wants it.
