1. It's an adaptation of a comic book.
.. like 1 in every 3 movies these days.

3. Yes, but it was a very good comic book.
Written by Alan Moore, I think.

4. I wish they'd do more adaptations of manga
Comic books are pretty stale material.

7. it's one I've not looked into
I stopped looking at American comics pretty much at my first visit to a store that sold them, and have largely been nonplussed since whenever I've looked. It's possible I missed a gem or two.

2. Actually...
seems more like Bush's take on "democracy".

Was that TURDBLOSSOM behind that MASK??

6. the way it started out..
"there is something terribly wrong with this country.."
cut to faux-goose stepping soldiers, cut to
hitler like figure in front of podium with
swastika-like insignia with a "double cross"
shape...

insinuation of torture and the imposition of
police state.
It just looks like a real allegory to me.

Plus, it's got Hugo Weaving in the title role..
