Let's give the ACLU a big DU boost!

The ACLU is under attack now more than ever by the hardcore right wing. We need to show them some support! The more I hear and read about the ACLU, the happier I am that I am a monthly donor. There are around 70,000 DUers...can you imagine of all of us gave just $5 to the ACLU at the same time? I propose that all of us, in the next 24 hours if possible, go to www.aclu.org and donate $5 or more. We need to make a statement that we don't believe the lies of the radical right, and that civil liberties are important to Americans.

The L.A. filmmaker who was detained in Iraq said he would STILL BE THERE if not for his family calling the ACLU. They are the ones who sprung him from totally bogus charges. The Freepers were all like, "HANG HIM!" because his CAB DRIVER had timers in the trunk of the cab -- this guy, he didn't even put any of his stuff in the trunk and he was in BushCo Concentration Camp Hell for 2 months!

Personally, I value my light blue, Member Button as much as my John Kerry for President Button. And, Seriously now, you're so right, lawyers are more important in social & civil liberty maintenence than the Constitution of the U.S., imho. The devaluation of civil liberties by the neo-cons, patriot acts, Supreme Court selection of the 2000 election result, proves the U.S. constitution cannot protect us. Just ask the native Americans, the Africans inslavement and the women who couldn't vote, all sanction under the "Constitution". But, lawyers get people out of jail sometimes and bring justice when the government oppresses us.
