Are there US POW's in Iraq?
My mom and I were discussing this last night. I don't believe I have seen anything about this. Have I missed something or have there been no reports?

Thanks.

10. Maybe because they're killed before
being captured? Less upkeep?

3. Does a bear shit in the woods? Of course their are. Remember these
insurgents have been selectively kidnapping people from all countries. They selectively bomb our vehicles at will_they could easily take those survivors. Problem here is the rummy bans any stories on this item in the USA. There have been several stories in the world press___not the fascist ones, but in the independent. We've had soldiers decapitated__that's why the coffins have been sealed or the remains cremated before being returned to America. I believe that this is going to come out___it's just to huge to conceal indefinitely. Look he ordered the assassination of the Italian jornalist who had the scoop in the Fallujah GENOCIDE with banned WMD by Rumsfeld

7. Do you have any links to
help out on this question? Thanks.

I do know there must be POW's, just very curious how they hide that fact? It seems that it would be in * best interest to tell about them, stir up more hatred toward the "insurgents".

Hiding it doesn't seem to benefit *, and when do they ever miss an opportunity like that?

8. Icasualties still says there's one US captured
http://icasualties.org/oif/

Scroll down; you'll see this link:

1 Soldier is listed as Captured

It takes you to this from the DOD, issued last year about Keith Maupin:

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/2004/nr20040423-0645.html

DoD Announces Soldier's Captured Status
The Department of Defense announced today a change in the status of a soldier serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom from duty status - whereabouts unknown to captured.

Pfc. Keith M. Maupin, 20, of Batavia, Ohio, was declared captured on April 16.

On April 9, Maupin and Sgt. Elmer C. Krause, 40, of Greensboro, N.C., were categorized as duty status - whereabouts unknown when individuals using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire attacked their convoy. Both soldiers were assigned to the Army Reserve’s 724th Transportation Company, from Bartonville, Ill.

Other reports on the Internet say Maupin was killed by his captors. Was this ever confirmed?

9. Only one??
This seems amazing considering we have over 100,000 troops there.
Am I the only one that finds this strange?

15. The Iraqi resistance never fights long enough to capture a U.S. troop.
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 08:47 AM by Massacure
The resistance only does two things.

1) Suicide bombs
2) Launch a few mortars or an RPG and then run like hell to merge back with the local population.

20. Not entirely true
They have fought prolonged battles like in Najaf, Fallujah and elsewhere. Also, terrorist tactics like suicide bombings are not really used by most of the resistance. They are used by terrorists, who are completely different from most of the insurgents.

You also forgot IED's.

21. I forgot about Najaf and Fallujah.
Didn't the military confirm though that a majority of the resistance there managed to slip away?

25. Yeah, that's true
A lot of them did slip away (not in Najaf or the first attack on Fallujah, because the US didn't demolish the city completely).

24. Matthew Maupin = POW
Taken prisoner in 2003 and quickly forgotten by America.

Nobody gives a shit.

Also, there are dozens of kidnapped contractors in Iraq right now.

I can't think of his name off hand, but I think he's a reservist.

22. Jeffrey Ake...Contractor From LaPorte, IN
Here's a list from Reuters of those who've gone missing...

http://today.reuters.com/News/CrisesArticle.aspx?storyId=L23005425

Ake went missing in April...a contractor. It made the corporate news for one day, the local news for a couple more and not much since.

Here's the most recent story I found...

http://www.wndu.com/news/072005/news_43242.php

LaPorte, IN - It's been almost three months since a LaPorte businessman was kidnapped in Iraq. Jeffrey Ake was taken hostage near Baghdad while working as a civilian contractor.

<snip>

Most of LaPorte celebrated the holiday with thoughts of Ake and his family on their minds. His disappearance is affecting the whole city, not just his friends and family.

"I didn't know him personally, but my younger kids did, but it's sad that they don't hear from him or anything about him,” said Edith Gorski.

There has been no new word from Ake since he appeared on a video asking for the U.S. to leave Iraq.
