Kate O'Beirne just said on Meet The Press that the Plame leak
may have originally come from somewhere else besides the White House.

Russert got all titillated.

What the heck is she talking about? Is she trying to say the State Department did it?

And what's her deal? She sounded like a Republican mouthpiece in the few minutes I heard.

She's definitely trying to place it outside the White House, but she still said "in the administration".

8. I think the administration defense is that Judith Miller started it all
Miller told Libby and Rove that Plame was a covert CIA operative, and they in turn used that information to discredit Wilson through Novak. The defense being that if Miller knew, then Plame's status wasn't "secret" any more, which is patent bullshit. It just means that Miller is as guilty as the other government operatives Libby and Rove.

Russert is excited because he's dumb enough to think that this will clear his cocktail party hosts and Vineyard neighbors from all wrongdoing.

51. That would not be a good idea
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 02:07 PM by Jack Rabbit
I'm not saying they won't be stupid enough to try it, but it would be really stupid.

One of the reasons the Watergate cover up fell apart like it did is that "they" offered John Dean as a fall guy. He was culpable enough, so why not? Unfortunately, they did not ask Mr. Dean for permission to use him in that way; he was by no means a cooperative fall guy.

Colin Powell may be a good soldier, but he's probably not such a good one that he'll go on a suicide mission for which he didn't volunteer. He knows where a lot of the bodies are buried in this scheme. Among those whom I believe ought to be charged with war crimes arising out of the pre-war deception, Powell is the one with the best defense of having been deceived himself. He probably has a a bad taste in his mouth.

If the Bushies expect more of Powell than just being a good soldier by keeping his mouth shut, they may find he'll go public with what he knows. If they thought Wilson going public was bad, wait until Powell does.

The Bushies would do better to offer Rove and Libby as the fall guys. At least they're willing; they know pardons await them at the end of rainbow; therefore, they won't get out of control like John Dean a third of a century ago.

11. I would suggest
ignoring her. She is a source of disinformation, helping with a coordinated effort to confuse the issues. Russert's "titillation" may be due to his knowledge of the real story, which he is not able to speak openly about at this time.

At the same time, there was a report that originated in State that identified Mrs. Wilson. One need only review those who were State employees at the time to figure out the nuts and boltons behind this.

28. It's All DisInformation
That's why I'm kinda glad the Rove story has cooled for now. While it might piss some of us off that there's not the constant headlines and calling for his head, there's also less opportunity for a witch like O'Bierne to get out and muddy what facts already are starting to become understood and common knowledge.

We all know we're waiting for the ultimate word...indictments or vindication from Fitzgerald...and none of us know what and when that will be. For all we know, he could be closing up shop right now and preparing a big September surprise...either good or bad. Again, that's my speculation, and I'll gladly call it so.

The "ground game" inside the chattering class is to confuse and distort this issue as it hits way too close to home. For obvious reasons, this regime wants it to go away, but the corporate media does just as well as it makes them look like the pansies and fools in this treasonous story. At best "they finally woke up"...at worst they'll get portrayed as enablers and way too cozy with this regime. They want it to soooooo go away.

Right now we're hearing what could best be called "jury nullification"...especially by the RNC and other Repugnican propaganda operations. They know how dangerous this scandal is and they're all out now to either make people "sick" of hearing about it, or make it so confusing many will not want to pay attention to it.

Cheers...

29. Way too cozy
http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/iln/aboutus/patrickjfizgerald.html

Patrick J. Fitzgerald began serving as the United States Attorney for the
Northern District of Illinois on September 1, 2001. Mr. Fitzgerald was initially
appointed on an interim basis by Attorney General John Ashcroft before being
nominated by President George W. Bush. The United States Senate confirmed his
nomination by unanimous consent on October 23, 2001, and President Bush signed
his commission on October 29, 2001.

Mr. Fitzgerald served on the Attorney General's Advisory Committee
from 2001-2005, and he remains Chair of that Committee's sub-committee on terrorism.
He is also a member of the President's Corporate Fraud Task Force.
In December 2003, he was named Special Counsel to investigate the alleged disclosure
of the identity of a purported employee of the Central Intelligence Agency.

30. Are You Saying Fitzgerald Is Cozy, Too?
Tell that to George Ryan...I think he'll disagree with you.

This man is the most independent prosecutor I've ever seen. Law above partisanship.

And isn't it the fact he is a Repugnican that gives this investigation any credibility...especially if indictments are handed down?

My point is there are a lot of corporate journalists like Timmy Russert and Tweety Matthews who know their careers can be destroyed if this story turns into a real messy scandal.

Cheers...

One simple fact remains:

Karl Rove either named, repeated, or confirmed to at least one reporter, the secret identity of a covert CIA operative and thereby exposed her network of worldwide contacts in foreign countries.

24. O'Beirne is full of hate
I will never forget she was one of the mean-spirited foursome back in the "bu$h* honeymoon days":

From the London Sunday Telegraph: Sitting on a plush verandah in the suburbs puffing cigarettes and helping themselves to a pitcher of gin and tonic. Danielle Crittenden, Barbara Ledeen, Kate O'Beirne and Mrs. Theodore B. Olson held forth on the failings of Democratic women.

During this social event, Barbara Olson (who did later apologize) harped: "Look at Bill Clinton's mother as opposed to George W.'s mother," Olson said. "Is your mother a barfly who gets used by men? Or is your mother a strong woman who demanded respect for her ideas and always received it?"

===
Drinking gin and tonic and making fun of Clinton's mother as a barfly at the same time - hello. Danielle Crittenden = wife of David Frum and Barbara Ledeen = wife of Michael Ledeen (Rove's big buddy).

Nasty bunch.

27. Fitzgerald has really turned DC upside down and he hasn't even
finished yet! The amount of anticipation and speculation from the Right is hilarious because they are foreshadowing and showing an intense amount of fear. If the target was only one, the right and its media propaganda peons would quickly call it a one off - but more and more it seems there will be an actual conspiracy and criminal charges.

The media whores are in up to their necks and now a hard-nosed Chicago prosecutor has more power than the current pResident of the US. Let's see what Fitzgerald does with it...

1/2 hr I was able to stomach this circle-jerk. When pig-boy Russert made a comment about how the Republicans were saying -- let the prosecutor do his job, let the prosecution run it's course-- during Clinton's troubles. She said the difference is the Chimpy misAdministration is fully cooperating with Fitzgerald. No one laughed out loud. Ever since I saw him get a hardon on tv about a non-story during the Clinton presidency I don't trust him. It was something about China and technology or something like that. 43. Russert's irritated because he's in trouble
The best case scenario for him when this all bursts open and reaches some perception equilibrium with history is that he'll be shown as a willing mouthpiece for the forces of greed. The worst case scenarios are MUCH worse, and he's scared for his reputation. He's also scared of the legal implications of his testimony and the possible retaliation from Deadeye Dick and his band of hairy men.

He's a classic narcissist, and his reputation is very important to him. A dark cloud is over many of these quasi-journalistic functionaries: they're being muscled bigtime by the desperate gangsters of this administration, but instincts must be telling them that this is too big to conceal.

Kate O'Beirne is a mean, privileged liar without a scruple to her name. She traded on looks and reactionary loyalty to get where she is, and she's bitter that she is just barely hanging onto any form of fame now. The haughty rectitude with which she sneers at the world is tiresome and transparent. Her worldview is nothing short of trampling all ne'er-do-wells and subsidizing the powerful; doing it with fake moral dudgeon is just plain ugly, and nobody of any merit takes her seriously.
