Do you get the Newsworld Internationl channel?
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 11:40 AM by Eric J in MN
If so, are they urging you to tune in for the debut of Al Gore TV (Current)?

If I'm understanding this correctly, the channel will start at midnight Eastern-time Monday night (9PM Pacific.)

30 JUL 2005
The entries are in, the channel is up (almost)

Okay! The deadline for the Current Summer Challenge has passed. Thanks to all who entered; we'll have the first wave of results next week.

In other news, OH MY GOD WE ARE LAUNCHING A TV CHANNEL.

At 9 p.m. PST tomorrow, we'll be live on air, finally hitting cathode-ray tubes (and fancy plasmas, I suppose) in the real world.

If you get Current (366 on DirecTV, 103 on Time Warner in NYC, 125 on Comcast here in SF) tune in and check it out. It's not every day a new cable TV network lights up for the first time.

1. I'm Watch NWI Now...
It's still running CBC programs. Not a bad alternative. I haven't seen much of anything about this project for months.

5. Right Now NHK News...
The commercial breaks that I've seen are either P.I's...(Per Inquiry...the "call the 800 number" stuff)...my genetic reflex is to grab the remote and find something else to watch when those come on.

I'll monitor to see if there are promos...the ones I've seen recently are for the usual NWI mix of CBC stuff and generic promos.

2. The new network is described as an altenative for those with
short-attention-span. I'll miss CBC and a good source for alternative news, although some was just rehashed news form American TV.

3. I Like When They Rebroadcast Other Newscasts
I had heard that was going to be the ultimate focus...kinda like the old CNN World Report.

6. Update 12:45 CDT...
Commercial break had a spot for the U.S. Army. Interesting.

Now they're showing a bit a "farewell to NWI". The anchor said "after 11 years NWI is closing its doors at midnight tonight".

I'll keep on eye on this throughout the day. You'd think there'd be more promotion or mention about this.

11. To tell the truth I am dissappointed that
the new channel Current TV isn't going to keep some of the CBC programming NWI carried. It was the only place one could get some real "fair and balanced" news.

12. Email two places.
Email Current and ask them to show CBC news for at least half-an-hour a day.

Email the CBC and ask them if they're available any other way to Americans.

16. Here's the reply I got from CBC:
We appreciate your comments related to Newsworld International (NWI). Events surrounding the closure of NWI are summarized on the CBC web site
at <http://www.cbc.ca/story/business/national/2005/04/07/nwi-050407.html>. If you have further questions, you may wish to contact the new channel "Current TV"
at <http://www.current.tv/about/contact/index.php>.

Regarding further options for CBC content, daily television news programs including “The National”, “Canada Now” plus hourly news updates are available at
<http://www.cbc.ca/newscast.html>. Many clips from CBC television shows (e.g. CBC News: The Hour or Rick Mercer’s Report) can be viewed on individual
program sites.

CBC is currently conducting podcasting trials for four radio shows at <http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting>. Online streaming of CBC Radio programming can be found
at <http://www.cbc.ca/listen/index.html>. CBC Radio can also be heard in the United States on short wave, with details provided online at
<http://www.rcinet.ca/>.

The American network C-Span has been permitted to air "The National" on an irregular basis when the network is looking for a Canadian perspective on a
particular major world event, or for specifically Canadian news stories. You should contact C-Span directly for scheduling information.

Thank you for your interest. We hope you will continue to stay in touch with Canadian news and events with the help of the CBC.ca web site.

18. Go to yahoo.com, click TV, click personalize, enter your zipcode,
click Finished, then look for:

NEWSINT

probably in the early 100s.
